Behringer Model D finally in the house, after preordering last July. I've not owned a Mini, but I have owned a Source and recorded a bunch with a friend's Voyager. I've not played anything else that sounds THIS much like the real deal. It has that "twang" in the envelopes, the largess of low end, and the filter growls the right way in motion. And for $299... I feel like I struck the jackpot. Anyone else get theirs yet?
Got mine yesterday as well. It's the bee's knees. I am about as much of a synth noob as one can be and it's a lot of fun.

It's amazing how great of a job they did with the D... whereas the Deepmind is totally blasé

I still have a ways to go with it as well. The Mini method of dealing with LFO/Oscillator 3 modulation is somewhat new to me. It does have a legit LFO but the oscillator modulation and using the noise generator to modulate things is neat too.

The Model D makes me want to park it in a Eurorack and pick up a few modules to interact with it. I know that's a black hole my wallet willNOT appreciate.

Really? How so? I've been really interested in a Deepmind (don't know 6 or 12) since it seems to cover A LOT of ground. I've heard that almost every preset has effects on it, which I have no problem editing. Have any big problems?

It just doesn’t sound that interesting. It sounds like a plug in Juno 106 but not a great plug in. I’m sure it can make a few good sounds but compared to the real thing, it’s really uninspiring. If you want a cheap but great sounding Juno 106, get a Roland Alpha Juno.
They sound pretty identical to a 106 but can do more thanks to the expanded EG and more waveform options. It has the same analog mn3009 stereo chorus BUT you can adjust the rate! A friend just bought an Alpha Juno 1 for $300 on Craigslist yesterday and he is psyched.

Also remember this, the only thing analog on a Juno 106 is the filter. The EG is digital and obviously it has DCOs. The Juno 60 has an analog EG so it can get more ‘plucky’ sounds.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I DO really like the Juno sound, but especially since I'm not a keyboard/piano player primarily, I guess I'm kinda looking for something that can cover a lot of synth ground. I need to start trying things out locally when I get some time. I'm sure I'll find something that I like. That Alpha Juno sounds great, but I think I want a little more control flexibility than that. And honestly, I'd still rather have something newer than vintage I think.

I’ve never tried an alpha juno, but am surprised that it sounds so close to a 106...I mean the JX8P(which came after the 106)sounds way less rich and analogue in comparion side by side to 106..much as I love the JX too.

Nice Vangelis sound going on there! I like the Juno-2 way better than the J-8.

The dude needs to get a new camera; the chromatic aberration in the lens is horrible. :D

When I was looking to buy a Juno 106, I tried out the Alpha Juno and it's really great! I still want one, I just can't get around not having the physical controls there for me to manipulate on the fly. I love running a midi sequence through the Juno 106 and making subtle or extreme changes as it plays.

But, as I said, STILL WANT ONE. :fp:

At least the Alpha is cheaper. You could easily do both and likely wouldn't take that long to save up for ;D

I like it, sounds like an analogue D50 to me.. has those late 80’s patches..which is probably because Eric Persing designed the presets for this and the D50...not sure I’m hearing much relation to the earlier Juno’s though...sadly it was Roland’s last analogue synth too.

I'm spending way too much time on OSG so I thought I could use another forum as well...
Seriously: Is there a synth forum that is nearly as nice and friendly and helpful and geeky as OSG? Looking for recommendations.

Gearslutz electronic subforum but scattered throughout the wealth of knowledge/useful info I find there's a lot of threadshitting/negativity/weird ego dick jerking in my experience. In other words, check it out but be prepared for bizzare thread derailments with guys arguing about silly minutae and dropping names, dick measuring nonsense etc.
