Looks like fun! Can I ask what rack cases/faceplate you went with. I know you can get them from collective cases but I think the design is shitty. I'm sure they are well made. And are yours 2U? Does it all fit with modification into a 2U rack?

I got mine made for me special by a company called Protocase in Canada.

I designed them... every last hole and bit of screen printing... in this freeware lite CAD software they have for download on their site.

They came out pretty nice. I was apparently careful enough, because all the holes are in the right place and fit my stuff perfectly.

It was a bit of work to get them to squeeze into 2U.

I ditched the rectifier tube in favor of a pair of UF4007 diodes. I also had to use .25" standoffs (instead of .5") and then I used a sheet of insulating cambric under the board for double insurance against board-to-chassis shorts (in practice it was fine). Finally, I had to use two machine nuts on the threads of the input and output transformers to get the right height off the board-- not sticking out too far underneath for the short standoffs, but not so tall as to hit the ceiling. The 0A2 rectifiers and my giant Solen film filter caps just barely fit, but they do fit! The phantom power supply board just barely fits on the back wall of the enclosure.

Cool thanks! I'll probably just stick with 3U since I do have plenty of rack space, but I want to design my own too. I'll look into Protocase.

Nice!
This is an old post, but I'm building two of them now. Can you explain how you did wire the output attenuation?

Thanks!

Aaron said they were a “kit” but obviously they weren’t :)

I think he just used that as a shorthand for “DIY”

Another surprise was the GOLY Porter Grinder eq in the mix room.
Gustav who makes them is a pretty cool guy, who started out playing music, then recording music, while making DIY kits and selling PCBs for kits, before venturing out into making outboard gear.

The Goly EQ is fantastic.

I’ve used it on mix bus pretty much since it arrived in that room

Fun fact about the GOLY name is, that it's the regional dialect version from where he's from, of the Danish way of saying Great Sound.
God = Great, and Lyd = Sound, but they don't pronounce the d sound hence Go' Ly' = Great Sound
