NHSD - An upgrade 11 years in the making...
Since July 6, 2009, I've been using the same modest home studio setup to record all of my song demos. A Yamaha Audiogram6 USB Interface, and a Shure SM58 microphone. It has served me faithfully since that time and continues to work into the present day.

Life circumstances have changed quite a bit since then. I've grown a lot as a songwriter, my employment situation has improved dramatically, and my confidence around the prospect of recording at home as risen to the point that it felt like it was time for a change. Given that, I took delivery today of... well... ::gestures broadly::

Needless to say, I'm quite excited. I imagine the latest Scarlett will have better latency than the ol' Yamaha (which had its moments from time to time), and the updated selection of mics should make my home demos sound quite a bit better. Given that full band activities are unlikely to resume any time soon, I figured why wait? Time to see if I'm any good at that "bedroom pop" thing the kids are always on about...

Right on. I bought a new interface and revamped my setup about 6 months ago. It’s been great. One of the best gear-related decisions I’ve made in a long time.
Looking forward to hearing what you make with it.

Nice! I've been wanting to try an e906 for a while now. Let me know what you think!
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Thanks folks!
I'll keep you posted. A fellow forumite and I are starting up a stems project, so once it's underway I'll post stuff to the Music topic.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 3:23 pmRight on. I'll let you know! Admittedly I'm not expert in mic'ing guitars, but it seems like it'll be easy enough to use.
Truly. I was focused mostly on just writing the best songs I could for the past decade rather than recording them especially well. I figured it was time to change that and learn some new skills in the process.

Awesome. Can I ask you why you got the SM7B when you have the SM58 and the AT4040? I imagine the latter you will use for vocals, and most of the stuff you can use the SM7B for you can use your 58?
Looking forward to hearing your songs!

The plan was to use he AT4040 to mic my acoustic guitar, and the SM7B for vocals. I've done all my studio vocals with the latter so I'm used to it and rather like it.mediocreplayer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 4:36 pmAwesome.
