First time recording an entire band

Post by Jan Deal » Thu Apr 04, 2019 8:00 am

Hey guys, looking for some constructive criticism of this recording -

https://open.spotify.com/track/19XJyk4J ... Tr0WtR7X4g

This is the first track that has been released where I’ve tracked everything myself and mixed it.
Seas, Starry : Fuzz / Pop / Noises

I like the song. Very Deerhoof-esque.

The vocals are a bit loud in the verses to my ears. That’s my only real criticism though

Thanks for the feedback. When I was mixing the track, I made a point of comparing it to what I conceived as similar sounding tracks in order to get the levels how I wanted. I guess that's how the vocals ended up in the forefront!

Second attempt here. This one is a bit more complicated as the song has defined sections. There is more instrumentation and the dynamic shifts are more evident.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I'm still really new to recording a full band, but I've been trying to keep it as simple as possible so I don't get overwhelmed with options and ideas!

options /ideas tend to ruin recordings IMHO, stick with the simple stuff
