Looks like a fun experiment, but... to me anyway, the results of that experiment are unequivocally that you probably don't want to use an IKEA table as a plate reverb.

I looked into buying a plate reverb. Like I'm some rich guy or something. I live in an apartment.
But I love plate reverb.

Sometimes you can get an old Ecoplate II or III for not-too-much.
It's not an EMT, no, but if tuned and in good shape it's a cool little reverb, and definitely a real plate

...it sounds like someone banging on an empty metal trash can in unison with the snare.
One man's trash... another man's treasure

thank you- I'll keep an eye out when I buy a house. I'll be putting a little studio in that and a plate would be quite the tool to have there. We had one at school and I loved it on acoustic guitars and such.

Some people try to ask a lot of money for those old Ecoplates. But if you wait around and find one locally or within driving distance, you can often score fairly cheap from someone who doesn't want the hassle of shipping a medium-large and very fragile heavy thing

That was a neat video, and I appreciate that some people simply enjoy the build and experimentation.

I did at least, but it needs to be refined and tuned quite a bit before it’s more than a hack or special effect. I wouldn’t really call it a Plate Reverb at this point. It can make cool trashy sounds though, and sometimes that’s useful. It’s a bit like tape echo emulator pedals though. A lot of what they do doesn’t really sound like a real studio grade tape echo.
Some people gravitate towards the stranger sounds in the grunge, lo-fi, wobble and noise end of the spectrum that those pedals can do. That has an appeal as a special effect source, but it doesn’t sound like tape echo, although now with the proliferation of these pedals plenty of people think that’s what a tape echo should sound like. To me, that’s what’s happening here. A cool sound source, and a nice hack, but not something I would recommend for a Plate Reverb sound.

Oh no...I thought the reverb sounded terrible. I was just trying to avoid negativity.
