I feel like mastering is one of those processes that most people don't really understand until they've had someone do a really good job. People often ask "what IS mastering, exactly?" and the answers they get back are usually poor and nebulous.
I tried my best to address that question in this article in a way that's clear and relatively comprehensive. I hope it helps (or at least interests) someone!
