Guitar Recording into Scarlet.....
Working on some music, but how to record the guitar? I wanted to try my red box pro DI box, but somehow it wouldn't work? SO, I went with a 90's Ibanez tube king into the Scarlet....sounded ok. Does anyone have any other methods besides miking up an amp?

You could find an old 'channel strip' interface, which can be amazing value for money. I have a Focusrite Platinum Trak Master I snapped up when I saw it for £60 as I already had the Voice Master. The Trak Master has an instrument level input (switchable to line level) and an XLR mic in, both controlled by a trim pot. It only has analogue outs, but other channel strips have digital outs on co-axial or optical.

Re: Guitar Recording into Scarlet.....
the red box pro requires phantom power I do believe from a quick googling, did you have that switched on?
the red box is also only a speaker sim so you will need some form of amp in front of it, they are best used as a speaker bypass on amps that allow it, amps that have a speaker direct out that cut the single to the speaker/s when in use.
I'd suggest just getting something like an amp sim pedal, *joyo american sound, amp and speaker simulator.
Basically after 18 years of trying different shit the best sound i've ever achieved going DI is:-
guitar>pedalboard>*ampsim>DI>interface
keep it analog as much as possible.

Re: Guitar Recording into Scarlet.....
Mittens above mentions something kind of important there, the virtual amp simulator, that I didn't see you talk about. If you just run the guitar into the Scarlett then it's just a dry guitar signal. You'll want some kind of virtual amp running, like Amplitube or whatever comes with your DAW (if one comes with it), or Waves GTR or something. Do you have something like that going on?
The Scarlett is more the capable of getting the guitar's signal into the computer, but that's all it can do.
And I'm confused about the mention of phantom power, which has one job and one job only, to supply the needed power to run condenser microphones. That doesn't have any application here.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Re: Guitar Recording into Scarlet.....
had another google and the red box pro DI is passive so it shouldn't need phantom. strange that you couldn't get a signal through it. :s

The scarlet works fine, and has some amp sims that came with it. The DI box, not sure what's wrong with it.

Re: Guitar Recording into Scarlet.....
I went guitar>pedalboard ( through tube distortion pedal> scarlet. There are plenty of built in channel strips, reverbs, compression to play around with. It sounds ok, but will need to mess around with it .
One thing I will try today is guitar> budda tube pedal > scarlet .
