jazzcaster vs telemaster

Post by FightingPlankton » Mon Aug 10, 2015 1:59 pm

So, my friend ricky has a tele neck from an old MIM tele i refinished a few years ago. Long story short, he wants to build a telemaster/jazzcaster.
He basically wants a JM body w/ everything else from a tele. He likes the ashtray look, but can't stand the fact that he cant palm mute with it on. So i came up with this idea:

Basically, you have a tele bridge all the way where JM tail piece would be but then it goes to a TOM/Mustang style bridge. It uses the Tele tone plate for the bridge pickup.
Its a compromise between JM looks and tele tone...i personally like the idea, but I havent shown him yet. Wanted to get some feedback first. His guitar probably wont be sunburst either.
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

I like that a lot. You could use one of Strider13's hard tail plates and figure out a way to fix the cover over it... Why not just use the Tele plate that he has as well (fits a JM/Jag or Mustang bridge and mounts a Tele single coil or humbucker to it)? They also have those Mastery Tele bridges with the notches cut out of the back for a Bigsby...

he actually doesnt want a behind the bridge pickup. just the aesthetics of the ash tray cover but he still wants to be able to palm mute. So basically all it's doing is acting like a stop bar tail piece for a TOM bridge...with an ash tray cover...but i'll have to talk him into the idea of adding a tele pickup back there now that you've given me the idea.

I actually didn't mean it as a behind-the-bridge pickup, but that could be cool too. I know Strider has some hardtail plates that don't have a behind-the-bridge spot...
