Photoshop request...Jazz Bass bodied Jazzmaster.
I've had this idea kicking around for some time and I've found someone who can make me such a body I believe. I'd like to see it mocked up though, or a few different mock ups would be even more wonderful. But I can suffice with one. I just want to know how it'll look with the pickups, bridge placement and such.
Basic idea is a regular Jazz Bass body and lower control route/plate. Then have it set up for 25.5" scale, Jazzmaster pickups, bridge and tremolo. Using the normal Jazz Bass pickguard.
I also wouldn't mind seeing it set up for 24" scale too. I'm thinking that may look a little wonky though with the short neck and big body. I like 24" scale better but could always use a 25.5" for down tuning and such.
Here is a mockup someone did here I believe. Not sure who it was though. I really like it but would love it more with more Jazzmaster influence. Possibly with Wide Range humbuckers. Not sure the scale on it. I think it's 25.5".
I was going to post this in the mods/projects section but thought I'd try here first. Maybe a mod can move it if they think that would be a better place for this question.

Grey.exe, thank you so much for the pictures. They came out looking really good.
That's what I was afraid of with the JM pup, two won't fit and if they do it'll be super cramped looking. The one with the two Tele neck pups looks sweet though. Two lipstick pup's would be awesome.
Did you place the JM neck all the way to the back of the Jazz Bass pocket? I'm thinking that wouldn't really work. Aren't the neck heel lengths different on a Jazz Bass neck and JM neck? I was thinking I'd just have it done with a normal JM pocket. So the neck wouldn't sit so far into the body. Even that way though two JM pups still wouldn't look right.
Two Jag pickups could be cool, a different take on the Jazzuar. Either that or just do a single Wide Range bucker...I wonder why the pickup spacing looks wider in the first picture I posted. Maybe the scale on that is different. Wish I knew where that picture came from. Someone on here or the Short Scale forums.
If you made it 24" scale (what I typically prefer) wouldn't the bridge be moved back a little. How much space would that buy for the pickup distances, apart from each other.
Do you mind if I save the pictures for future reference, and as a basic outline for the builder?

By all means, use them however you like. I do not think it's possible to fit two Jazzmaster pickups on that guard no matter how you move the bridge or the neck. It's simply too narrow, you'd have to change the design of the pickguard if you wanted to cram two of them in there. The first picture looks wider because the designer "cheated" and stuck that Nashville bridge at the edge of the pickguard which wouldn't really work unless you cut out a slot like a Strat pickguard. You just can't see it because his is all black.
With regard to the neck and bridge spacing, in truth I didn't pay much attention to the practicality of the design, it was just a mockup to see how those elements could potentially look together. It's up to you to actaully make them work.

I have dreamed about this a lot lately & this looks amazing but I would throw in a WRHB & have a Jazz Bazz/Jazzmaster/Melody Maker type guitar! I am trying to find someone that can help me with something like this also!Grey.exe wrote:

On a similar note, Bill at Canadian Breed did a P-Bass-shaped guitar body:

So many cool pictures. Thanks for the help and encouragement for this project This is something I'd really like to tackle. The idea of a baritone is quite appealing too. I'm going to have to do some cogitating on this one.
I could see moving the pickup more towards the neck though. My own personal reference. Granted I don't really have bridge pickup guitars so this may be a good opportunity to get one.
