Hi there offsetfans!

Post by Vinkie » Wed Oct 18, 2006 2:26 pm

Hello offsetfans,

Found this forum while lurching FDP and some other Jaguar specific sites and thought it would be cool to join. The short lowdown: I'm 31 years old, live in the Netherlands and started playing guitar aged seven. I've played in several bands the past few years, mostly indie/pop/'60s based. At this moment I play with a singer/songwriter, upright bass player and keys/pianist under the name "The Light Brigade". My profession is selling and repairing/adjusting guitars for a pretty large music shop in Amsterdam.

Funnily enough I dislike the ordinary Fenders, they sound good when others play 'em but I never got along with 'em myself. I always loved the Jaguar/Jazzmaster shape and liked some bands that used them (J Mascis, MBV, Ride etc) but the MIJ reissues never rocked my boat. My main guitars are Epiphone Elitist models (Riviera 6&12, Casino) but I always played 335 copies before so that's what I'm used to. However recently I worked on a refinished but otherwise all original '63 Jaguar that we traded in and I just couldn't let it go so I bought it. A setup, some intense cleaning and a pack of Ernie Ball 11-54's turned it into an awesome guitar already, however I can tell it used to be Olympic White so my plan is to have it restored to that condition in the near future.

Regards,
Martijn

hm, that's one of the store I haven't been to yet in Amsterdam

(ik ben van Terneuzen)

I can understand you never liked the MIJ reissue's if you didn't replace the pickups, or did you try that?

Hello Terneuzen!!  ;D
I agree the Japanese guitars are pretty good and mostly let down by the PU's so there's alot to improve on there. Still I just never got to the point with them that I actually bought one. Probably because I was getting good results with very different instruments and didn't really knew what a proper Jaguar could sound like.

proper Jazzmaster in my case, buying some Lollars helps a lot. I noticed your store has more offsets than most other dutch stores, good job!
