Officials took it out of the organisers hands, siting dangerous weather as the reason. Last year had pretty severe weather but things went ahead anyway.
I've been reading the shitstorm that's happened since the announcement. Bands due to play are performing in local venues but they're ticketed so folks already out of pocket are having to pay again (festival tickets will be refunded but not for around 30 days). Also, folk were told to queue for tickets only to then be told that they'd be for sale online. Then the ticket sites crashed & when folks finally got back online they'd sold out. Apparently touts are making a killing, selling their haul at premium prices.
I've friends who travelled there from London earlier in the week. Thankfully they planned a road trip, taking in Nashville & New Orleans so it's still a bit of a holiday. Some people have flow in from Japan & Australia just for the festival & now have nothing.
What makes it worse is that the weather is fine. Also, some bands are performing elsewhere on outdoor stages which must really rub salt in people's wounds.

I heard about this too. That is pretty sucky. It is unreal thinking about all the money that will be refunded and also all the money that will have been wasted by the bands and people who are already either there or on their way. I would love to make it down there some day.

Man, the only thing that could make this right would be an epic tornado.

...and now the organisers are posting Facebook photos of bands performing. You should read the comments left by folk who are quite rightly more than a little pissed off. Pretty fucking mean & inconsiderate if you ask me.
They chose not to reply to hundreds of desperate fans trying to get hold of tickets but we're happy to post pics of BJM getting down & having fun.
I'm guessing there was no limit to the number of tickets you could buy in one go so touts have got away with snapping up several, then selling them for as much as $200, per gig.

Oh and, it didn't rain one drop! Unbelievable!!

I was thinking in getting a ticket a couple of months back, thankfully I didn't. And I don't think I'd ever go to that pest.

Sleep/boris and sunn played at the mohawk Friday night...tickets were 5 bux and it sold out in about 20 seconds from what I read. What a cluster f**k.
