No offset guitars, or any guitars all night, but Author & Punisher was a fun one last night. He had a bit of trouble with his machines at the beginning, but once he got going, he was great. It's interesting to see that kind of heavy-droney-industrialy music played with a level of physicality, rather than the usual I-could-be-checking-my-messages bloke behind laptop stuff.

Going to see The War on Drugs tomorrow. Pretty excited. In the last 3 years have gotten to be able to see 3/4 of my favorite bands live.

The Cure - Check

The Cranberries - Cancelled their Nashville show. Dolores died 5 months later

Slowdive - Check

The War on Drugs - Tomorrow!

Living in the rural U.S I've driven no less than 3 hours to make these trips. I'll be driving 6 hours tomorrow to Cleveland. I try to catch the concerts when I can and make them count.

Beach House is playing for free at the Sub Pop 30th anniversary show next month. It’s going to be a madhouse, but I’ll probably go.

Missed Grizzly Bear at Summerfest a few weeks ago which is a bummer. My sister and I are going to see Incubus tomorrow night at the Rave in Milwaukee. Still my favorite venue after all these years.

I saw The Violent Femmes and Echo & The Bunnymen a couple of weeks ago and it was mostly a great show.

I was there to see EATB and the better half was there to see VF. VF opened and had a great energetic set and played all the hits. People were singing along to most of the songs. They sounded great and were in top form. Gordon Gano played a Tele Thinline for most of the night. It seems like quite a few people left after their set as it was a weird bill. I imagine Camper Van Beethoven or the Dead Milkmen would have been a better pairing.

Echo & the Bunnymen looked bored and sounded that way, too. I dunno, maybe that's how they are as I've never had the opportunity to see them live before. Will Sargent was using a Strat, a red Jag, and a Tele. The band sounded fine, but there were just too many mid-tempo/down-temp new songs that most people weren't into. They played a lot of the classics, but it was a much lower energy affair. Maybe they were just bored or tired. They came back after the set and played one song for the encore and left.

A few weeks prior to that we saw OMD. They were freaking great. The crowd was really into and even screaming out the lyrics to their very early stuff. Great set and encore.

Seeing MBV tonight, psyched. Saw them on their first reunion run 10 years ago.

The Rave is a great, and odd venue. Saw Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem there a few years back. Great show but it was cold as all getout, because they had all the windows open in late October. I suppose it would've been OK if we were on the floor surrounded by people and not up in the balcony.

I so so so so want to see OMD. Their last 3 albums are as good as anything they've ever done, so I wouldn't even care if they played all new stuff. Few bands have been around that long that can pull that off. EATB is another one I've seemed to somehow never catch throughout the years. Sounds like a bummer of a show, but maybe it was just an off night for them. Haven't seen the Femmes since '89, but they were a ton of fun.

The next few weeks are going to be tough...and amazing!

Lake on Fire Festival with:
Graveyard, Earthless, Orange Goblin, Monolord, Rotor, The Machine and Yawning Man (to name just a few)

Then Föllakzoid from Chile Wednesday next week, followed by Void Fest with: High on Fire, The Wytches (finally! :) ), Pallbearer, Occulta and many more,

Followed by two even smaller festivals, one of them is taking place close to a 100 year old cottage in the forest on a mountain with a waterfall near by... and we'll play there with my new band TENTACULA.

Then flying to Berlin to see catch (Thee) Oh Sees (for the first time) and Perotá Chingó and back to Vienna to see A Place To Bury Strangers (also for the first time).
All within 6 weeks! That's gonna be heavy! :)

Well, it was amazing. Rode bikes in with some friends to avoid the traffic shitshow. Another friend who was out of town offered his apartment a few blocks away to stash bikes and as a place to hang out and also said “Drink the Chimay in my fridge. It’s not really my thing.”

So we watched Hot Snakes, drank good beer hanging on his porch with a view of Puget Sound, then went back out and caught Wolf Parade. We left a little early to stake out a spot for Beach House. They played as the sun was setting and aside from a 5 minute sprinkle the rain held off. They played a good mix of old and new material and sounded amazing. Ran in an old friend/ former bandmate and we were both blown away.

Then we booked it home. It was a beautiful night for a ride.
