Blues is folk music. How good does she really need to be, technically? Is she good enough for the blues circuit? I've watched several videos of her since, and I think she's more than competent.
Don't care if she is competent or not. For me there's only good and not good and 'competence' seldom has anything to do with it. In fact the more 'competent' artists are on the electric guitar, the more I tend to find them 'not good' because it becomes all about them demonstrating their competence and nothing really to do with making sweet music.

I also think that the blues as folk music idea doesn't really sail in those particular waters or much at all these days. It's just another branch of the general/generic live music thing along with cover and tribute acts, that at least in this country is increasingly hogging live music venues and stifling the grassroots like a musical Japanese Knotweed.

I can't abide her clichéd guitar playing but it's the parodic voice that I really can't stand but I'm not her audience, I'm not into Blues Festivals/BBQ's, going to the House of Blues or covers of songs that don't really need covered and more often than not I gravitate to original material and new music, However, If she's making a living at it and her audience like her then I guess he's doing OK. even if I just can't understand why in a world filled with great new music, someone would ever choose to watch her videos* or start a thread on her.

*except there's a thread on unboxing videos elsewhere, so folk will watch anything.

If you guys think that's cool, you should see her cover of "I Eat More Chicken Any Man Ever Seen".
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

You guys should hear her version of "Tube Snake Boogie." Now that's the blooze.

I can almost see it considering that Jimi and Janice used to bang. Their love-making produced a Jewish rock manager however and not a child. Anyone see Supermensch?

It's been a couple of years so I thought it's time to check into OSG's favorite girl with a guitar blues diva Samantha Fish. I see that she has lately made a shift away from the screaming blues toward an early '60 bouffant torch singer with brass backup. AND she is sporting a double buckered Jaguar.

Hello Stranger

I think it's a good fit for her, even if it strikes me as an artist with an identity crisis.

Gah her voice is horrid, I'd need a supercomputer to calculate how many million times better Julia Holter, Yvonne Elimann and Barbara Lewis sing that song, it's near satirical northern working men's club or worse still cruise ship. Trading one cliche for another IMO.

Her new look kinda just reminds me of Lucy from Trailer park boys. I dig the stylistic change, musically at least since she's got a long way to go before she's as well dressed as Maki Nomiya, but I have to agree that her voice is pretty sub par. At least at lower volumes. Belting it out and singing more softly are two separate kinds of control.

I dunno, overall I think it's a step in the right direction for her, if she works on her voice and wardrobe she could be perfectly fine in my book.
This is an excellent rectangle

But what about Shannon Curfman? What's she doing these days? Has Samantha Fish stolen her cruise ship gigs?

Poor Shannon.
