.O.rang (Talk Talk Spinoff)
Have we had a thread about .O.rang? I'm an absolute sucker for their humid, fourth world clang and Lee Harris must be close to the king of drums. I'm in awe of the musicianship in general and the ability and desire to never stray into meedlemeedle territory.
I've been spinning Herd of Instinct in particular quite a bit this week and I find it incredible to think this elpee is over 20 years old, because it sounds so fresh. I've had the Spoor 12' and Fields & Waves on a lot too but I don't think F&W is as good as a piece as Herd of Instinct but I'm splitting hairs there because it's a great album..
So any .O.rang admirers or even new converts?

Re: .O.rang (Talk Talk Spinoff)
I love this. I keep expecting to hear Mark Hollis' voice pop in halfway through each song!
I'm a big Talk Talk fan, so this is really nice to hear. Thanks, David!
On a related note, are any of you familiar with Tim Friese-Greene's solo project under the name Heligoland?
Also, has Paul Webb done anything else under the Rustin Man moniker other than his album with Beth Gibbons?

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I know Heligoland, he had a 12' out earlier this year, it's was OK but perhaps not to .O.Rang standards. I think he's now retired due to tinnitus.Telliot wrote:I love this. I keep expecting to hear Mark Hollis' voice pop in halfway through each song!

There's been mo more Rustin Man. Pail Webb produced and played on the James Yorkstone elpee The Year of the Leopard, a while back but other than that nothing.
For such an incredible group of musicians the Talk Talk lot don't seem too bothered about making music.
There's a 'lost' .O.Rang album but it's never been released. To be honest I was always slightly bitter and frustrated at the lack of interest in .O.Rang so I understand the frustration. Sad to say they probably fit in more now than they did 20 years ago, back then pop music had just come through a horrific backward phase and was just about to embark on another. Progressive groups like .O.Rang couldn't get arrested during the 70's rawk with shouting period nor during the 60's rock with shouting years to come.
I'm glad to see some people liking .O.Rang, thanks for taking the time to check them out folks.

Wow I never heard this before. Definitely could be something produced today or next year. Thanks for the recommendation!

Re: .O.rang (Talk Talk Spinoff)
Fantastic news thanks. The teaser track sounds kinda like cross between Robert Wyatt and Talk Talk, I got a bit unsure when the harmony vocals came in but I managed to get over the hump. It's a wee bit kinda post prog and kept going right up the line of stuff I don't really like and quite polished but stayed juuuust the right side of the line.eggwheat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 9:42 amThere's a new Rustin man album coming... Btw if you like .O. Rang have a look at AMOR from my home city of Glasgow, they vocally remind me of them and theres something pulsing in the rhythm waters too, though they strip out the enthno futurism. For that you must venture into deepest darkest equatorial Glasgow, find the shaman and ask him to point you towards the Komodo Kolektif.

That first song on Herd of Instinct is amazing. Loads of other good stuff on that album too. Thanks for bringing them to my attention!
(afraid I can't say that about Fields and Waves though; sounds like they disappeared deep up their own bumholes for that one.. it's godawful (could cocaine be to blame? Sure sounds like it))

Re: .O.rang (Talk Talk Spinoff)
I really like Fields and Waves, especially Jalap...perhaps I've had too much cocaine. Still, thanks for checking them out I've always found it quite sad how .O.Rang have been forgotten when they reach such heights and really fit in at the moment with all the fourthworld music around.Sauerkraut wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 5:18 am
