Julian Lage

I've been hearing about this guy for a few years now. First off with his stuff he's done with Nels Cline, which didn't really intrigue me too much. But then I started watching some of his jazz, folk, and bluegrass solo and assemble electric and acoustic stuff, and well... Jesus Murphy! The guy is great. And he's only 27! My goodness... Check out some of his stuff, especially the latest episodes of Guitar Power and Acoustic Sessions on YouTube. The guy seems like a genuinely humble, happy, excited, and enthusiastic person who truly cherishes guitar playing and music in general. Super inspiring, really.

I've been enjoying his solo acoustic album, too, World's Fair. Just him and an acoustic guitar. :)

Wow, good call StevenO. I hadn't heard of him. I checked him out on your recommendation, especially the acoustic stuff. Fantastic. Great playing without the "look at me" showing off of most acoustic guys. Back to checking out more...

Yep, he's really great, I love him. Somewhere I have a photo of him with Nels Vline and one of my guitars. And he tweeted at me and said he really liked playing it. Made my day. Just a genuine dude who loves music and is an exceptional player.

I've been listening to the couple tracks from the upcoming album on YouTube and it's pretty great so far.

Crying

Tomorrow is the Question

I also keep coming back to this over and over Study for Electric Guitar

He’s actually early 30’s, please get it right as it makes me feel better about my own abilities.

But then again he’s been a virtuoso for over a decade, so I’m screwed either way.

I saw him with the Nels Cline 4 last week and he was pretty damned amazing!
He could play better at 8 years old than I can play now - that's not really saying much though. :derp:

It's weird that I already posted in this thread, because something similar just happened to me. I always get youtube reccs from him and while they were enjoyable...eh. I feel like he gets a little too "virtuso" at times in places where it's not really needed. I'd only heard his electric stuff, but I saw him play an acoustic song on youtube and was blown away.

Someone actually using their technical ability to create something musical (he does kinda sneak in a wank later on). The whole world's fair album is fantastic and shows what chops can do when used for good. It is very, very rare that I hear guitar playing and I think "I want to do that", but inspiring is definitely the right word here.

I heard him on the local jazz station about a year ago and picked up his album. Apparently he was a child phenom. Is he married to Margaret Glaspy?

I don’t know if they got married, but they’ve dated for years.
