IMO, it's more Stereolab than Broadcast and less interesting than, say, Death and Vanilla. Although, it's a matter of personal preference, of course.
A little sidenote: the
cover art for Hypnophobia was designed by Julian House.
Jacco Gardner - Find Yourself
Jacco Gardner - Before The Dawn
Good shout, I'd not have thought of posting that in here but it does fit. I bet PorkyPrimeCut likes this with it's whimsical psyche goes soundtrack vibe.

I'm very late to this thread, but in summary I can take or leave Gwenno, am now a Death and Vanilla fan and find the Black Channels kind of irresistible despite that video being the most transparent Broadcast homage, to the nth-most Rutlish degree, imaginable.

If you buy Haha sound it's worth watching
Valerie and her Week of Wonders which is a big influence on the album. The soundtrack is available on Finders keepers.

Thanks for the info! I am on a mission!

Wow that was a garbled sentence even by my standards. Either of those elpees is filled with surprise and delight. HHS is lush, warm and soundtrack big while Tender Buttons is to me something of a homage to late 70's/early 80's cassette/DIY culture and the moment when hundreds of budding young futurists got a synthesiser out of their mums Catalogue or grabbed any organ they could get their hands on and made do and mend. I'd like to revise my earlier punk not happening comment because essentially Tender Buttons
is their Post Punk record, it's just post a Punk that happened in an alternative dimension, a Punk which never had rock attached to it. It also contains some of the most beautiful vocal melodies and phrasing you will ever hear.

Sounds more HTRKish to me. I like it either way.
Light years off topic but...have you heard the new
Grouper side project 'Helen'? I think you might like it, though it's nothing like Broadcast, it's kinda fuzztoned ultrareverberated dreampop early Strawberry Switchblade the early years...it sounds like 1986-9.
Helen - Motorcycle
Helen - Dying All The Time
Helen - Ryder

Wow. I quite like this stuff.
Edit: I'm placing it more in the 1989-1991 era.
[But I was always behind the curve with music like this back then

New album 'Le Kov' just out, roughly halfway through it and enjoying it. (edit really good record)
This time she's singing in Cornish (last time she was in Welsh) which is a pretty interesting idea.
Early ones are blue and perhaps signed (well mine is) if that sort of thing matters to you.

Ah found a link to the whole thing;

She did a session on Lauren Laverne's 6 music show today. Around the 2 hour mark on iplayer for some chat about languages in music and some live tracks.
