Re: A little solo guitar from my next record
shit, thanks y'all!!
Maggie, the recording (I think!) was like this... it's been a second, so I'm going purely on memory.
1961 Super-amp. U67 on one cone, on axis. Neumann SM2 stereo mic in Blumlein, facing the guitar itself picking up some room sound and some of the acoustic sound (you can see it in the pic).
All three channels into REDD.47 tube preamps that I built. A touch of plate reverb, printed direct to 2 track on an Ampex 440B 1/4" machine from the late '60s that I hot-rodded with film caps replacing all electrolytics and tantalums, on ATR tape at +6 over 185 nw/M.
I THINK that's all correct. Again, it's purely on memory!

Is that your studio's setup? It's very, very sweet. Fantastic results!

You're easily one of the best, most talented and tasteful guitar players not just on this forum, but that I've ever heard.
That was fantastic. Truly fantastic.

You had me at B3....øøøøøøø wrote:Organ trio, actually! B3, guitar, and drums. Pretty traditional in that way.
FWIW, your posts here and on the Reranch forums are priceless; I really enjoy your insight to all things studio!

Dang. What records (aside from this one!) should I be listening to to learn to play like that?!

Well, Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall would be decent places to start!stevejamsecono wrote:Dang. What records (aside from this one!) should I be listening to to learn to play like that?!
As for solo unaccompanied stuff like this, there is one other name that really springs to mind and that is Gene Bertoncini

Re: A little solo guitar from my next record
Will Sojourn be adding this to their website for pre-orders, or will I just have to wait 2 whole, long, music-less months to order a copy...?

Re: A little solo guitar from my next record
Just watched again this morning. Actually a couple of times.
There are so many great guitars to look at on these pages, and also interesting discussions. There is not enough sharing of music.
On the other hand, maybe it is the fault of videos like this. The playing is so fantastic I would really have trouble posting my comparatively lumber jack like approach to the instrument.
I am looking forward to this record.

man that is so nice to say!
Of course there is nothing at all wrong with a "comparatively lumber jack-like approach."
