I've not listened to it because I have pre-ordered and want to give it the full boom shakalaka through the big speakas when it arrives but I loved and played to death the two trailer 12's, Bunkerpop and Groove it Out and the attendant remixes.

Sniffs the bouquet of Lonelady 2015 Vintage...'I'm getting an intoxicating bloom of 23 Skidoo, an earthy undertow of Arthur Russell, a fruity top note of ESG or is that DNA or ACR? Sips...oh I'm getting a resounding wave of Weekend, some skittering Kerosene harmonics, a playful burst of Fear of Music, a barbed arrow of Karoli, a snap of unearthly Hannett black box jiggery pokery, falling spangles of disko, the sharp citrus gleam of lowland minimal and a poison dart of heart freezing freefall balladry...mmm definitely one for the cellar and too good to spit!

it's not a record collection elpee, she still sounds like herself, she's modernist front to back, she's got good taste (Gucci bag optional), you'd not have to fear any uncomfortable Back to Mine situation were you to go dancing with Julie and there'd be no feat of any Oasis style round heads on the Campbell turntable. Some superb guitar playing on this record, JOYOUS! Death and Joy by Telecaster!

I'd never rate an elpee out of ten but if this was horse it would be more Arabian than my little pony.

You know I think this might actually be a record that makes kids want to pick up the guitar (it certainly makes ME want to pickup a guitar), I've not felt like that about an LP in a good while.

I've been anticipating this one as well. I'm trying not to listen to the stream, but I'm weakening and have peeked a little. I've listened to the two advance singles a bunch. Besides the "flavors" mentioned, she has also added a healthy dose of Funk this go-round.

“It’s channelling Parliament / Funkadelic, Stevie Wonder, Rufus, Prince, Arthur Russell… among others. A strange - but nonetheless real - meeting of funk and… me from Audenshaw, Manchester.”

I think her re-imagining of the role of guitar in this context, as well as the conviction and precision with which she plays is really infectious and exciting. I've always loved funk guitar with its choppy, angular, staccato stabs. Big fan of Lonelady.

Yeah funk fresh to the max. It's also great to see someone who can really sing but refrains from moving into range demo mode and 'emotion' demonstration mode in ever single song.

It is music for (The Art of) Parties.

The Vinyl looks pretty nice, I like the unifying << = LL theme of the run of 2 twelves and the LP. Even the 12's have inner sleeves, which is pretty unusual these days.



It's well worth checking out the remixes that back the singles.

We saw Julie play has night, she was incredibly good and played with I think the two guys who I saw with her the last time and who moved seamlessly between playing bass, drums, percussion and keys where necessary. They really did the album justice live (only played two songs off Nerve Up) and it's been a long time since I saw a singer/guitarist carry so much weight, while playing and singing absolutely flawlessly. She totally owns that Telecaster and I loved her for just playing the set, nailing it down by ending on a joyous version of Hinterland, getting the PA music straight back on and getting to fuck, no encore, no shilly shally, no nonsense, brutal as her crop. Salute!

Shame there was probably well under 100 souls there and far too many blokes standing there like they were were studying a particularly fascinating clump of of moss and totally not getting into the dancing spirit.

The first one is showing private (may just be region restriction?) but the other 2 clips were fantastic! I so dig that tortured solo sound in "Hinterland"...
