New U2?
Has anyone heard anything about when U2's next album is coming out? I thought it was going to be November of 2007, but I was obviously mistaken.

I haven't heard. I didn't even know they had anything coming out. I like U2 a lot. I think we're in the minority here.

Joshua tree is my favorite but it's more of a sentimental thing for me. Even so, I still find them annoying after awhile.

I know that some people can't take too much of Bono's voice at once, so... I dunno if that's why for you.StevenO wrote: Joshua tree is my favorite but it's more of a sentimental thing for me. Even so, I still find them annoying after awhile.
Everybody likes the Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, or How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. I was never a huge fan of the Joshua Tree, but I sort of "discovered" it recently. I like all of U2's stuff, really.
How is it sentimental, if you don't mind me asking?

Personally, I went through a huge U2 phase about 2 or 3 years ago when "How to Dismantle" came out. Now most any U2 is sentimental for me, too.

Bono gets on my nerves at times, too. Not his singing, but his attitude. He was very polite in person, though. I really am a fan of The Edge, though.

Yeah, Bono gets stupidly preachy sometimes, but they thing I really appreciate about him is that he's got no bullshit about him. He knows he's preachy, and admits it.RumorsOFsurF wrote:

It's true, he's certainly unapologetic. I can respect that. Besides, he actually knows wtf he's talking about, unlike all the other celebrities who try to force their political views on to everyone. Prime examples are: Sean Penn, Green Day , Kanye fuckin' West, among many others. Bono is very knowledgable when it comes to world politics, which (IMO) gives him much more right to voice his opinions. Plus, he's more tasteful with his presentation then most celebs.
I don't necessarily agree with all his views, but at least he backs his statements up.

Re: New U2?
When I saw them live last year, they played a great gig, but it seemed to me they were just going through the motions, there was no spark. It seemed to be as much more about a platform for Bono to preach his religious views on than anything else.
Still, apparently, this new album is supposed to be a little different ('Like nothing you've ever heard' according to Bono - pfffff), so I will certainly give it a listen.

Re: New U2?
I've heard a lot of their live stuff and the "spark" comes and goes -- which I think is reasonable, I mean -- when a band goes on tour they're playing the same songs over and over every day so they're bound to lose some feeling. Throw in the fact that a lot of U2's songs are ten, twenty, or even close to thirty years old and yeah, I can imagine they'd be going through the motions quite a bit. I think one of the reasons you might notice it more with U2 as opposed to other bands is because a lot of the quality in U2's songs actually comes from the emotion/intensity/soul in the music, which is going to be lost if the band isn't "feeling" it.scottme wrote: When I saw them live last year, they played a great gig, but it seemed to me they were just going through the motions, there was no spark. As far as Bono preaching, that's always been a problem... and there's a lot to preach about these days.

Re: New U2?
Have you guys never heard The Unforgettable Fire and Boy Both of those are classic, esp. Unforgettable Fire.mjet wrote:+1stereordinary wrote: Aw, U2 is cool. Achtung Baby and Zooropa are my faves.
I think that was their real high point. The last few albums have had some decent stuff but there's a lot of filler...
