Hannah Peel - Fabricstate EP

Post by shadowplay » Mon Apr 28, 2014 7:45 am

No matter how many new records If I buy, I keep going back to this wee red 10 inch (it's an affront that there's still some left, especially since I've bought like 5 of them and even worse there's still some of the last EP Nailhouse left). I really feel that she deserves a bigger audience and it's a bit of a tragedy that this beautiful little EP got basically zero press despite being exquisite.

Hannah Peel - Silk Road

Hannah Peel - Desolation Row and a Skins Sessionand interview

Hannah Peel - Chloe and a session in Meme Studios.

Hannah Peel - Fabricstate

Hannah is also part of The Magnetic North, plays synth and violin in John Foxx and the Maths live band and she is classical trained and composes for and works with Sadlers Wells on children's music programs.

Hannah in session for Marc Riley :-*

She reminded me of Golden Fable a bit, which is a good thing.

Thank you!

Nice to see some Hannah love, I've loved her since I bought Rebox, her music box versions of old Synthpop tracks. Her album was OK (more folk) but I think she really grew into herself with NailhouseEP last year. She's REALLY, REALLY nice, we've seen her live a few times and also with the Maths and she spoke to my two girls for ages and she was super charming.

A nice Northern lass.

Whisperit, I like Golden Fable.

Just came across her cover of Blue Monday which is great.

Hannah has reboxed (covered on a musical box) East India Youth's - Heaven, How Long :-* and it is available for free download (only 320kbps )for an insignificant portion of your soul.

Get it or listen to it here, it is indescribably, heart piercingly beautiful. Goes off to have a wee cry...

Also a video of her doin' it live.

Also a really excellent live session of Silk Road from Fabricstate, surrounded by Ben Edwards (Benge) astonishing collection of analogue keys in MemeTune studio.

Free unreleased song (pre Fabricstate and Nailhouse) Hannah is giving away, was apparently used on Bones and Reign two shows off the telly.

Can You Help Me

Kinda halfway between her old earlier, more acoustic folk first album The Almond Tree and folk electronique stuff where she is now, it actually sounds akin to the Magnetic North record she was on (Erland bloke sings on it too).

Hannah's ReBoxed (musical box) cover of Tainted Love was used in a UK TV ad for the Soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street. I'd like to think she sold some records off the back of this but I doubt it.

Hannah's new elpee Awake but Always Dreaming came out yesterday and it's superb stuff. A sort of concept album about dementia and it's effect on her grandmother, it front loads side one with the crystalline synthpop and then side two swims out into deeper more refracted territory to quite stunning effect, really showing of her flair for arrangement, before closing with an excellent Paul Buchanan cover.

I can't seem to click on this youtube stream in the UK but perhaps it works for you; Hannah Peel - Awake but Always Dreaming

This link to the the lead single does work for me; Hannah Peel - All that Matters.

Probably on Spotify too.

oh I didn't realize this was out, thanks for the head's up!

I have to hand it to Hannah, as well as Vanishing Twin's Choose your own Adventure, both contain some interesting themes. Sometimes it's nice to delve a little deeper into the music/lyrics.

Yes agreed. The new Caretaker has a similar theme to Hannah too. I seem to remember you liking him, his seems pretty terrifying, since he's actually been diagnosed with early onset alzheimer's but the record is very good.

Really looking forward to the Vanishing twin record arriving, I really liked Orlando. Have you heard the excellent new Tomaga album by the incredibly busy and far roving VT drummer Valentina Magaletti?
