The KVB

Post by shadowplay » Thu Apr 03, 2014 3:52 am

Anyone like The KVB?

I guess are very much post JAMC on initial contact, with hints of Joy Division, Suicide, Ike Yard, wheezy garage organ, Minimal Wave and a side order of hip swinging glam rock sleaze, drum machine sex beat. I know Whisperit is a fan but haven't seen any other talk of them.

If it matter to you it's all Jaguar and Jazzmaster

Broadly speaking I'm selecting from releases roughly in order.

The KVB - Never Enough off the Black Sun Cassette or DL

The KVB - Into The Night the first KVB I heard, on a 10' on the great downwards label.

The KVB - Hands The KVB - Hands (at Room 205) From the Always Then LP

The KVB - Again & Again from Minus One LP

The KVB - DAYZED- from Immaterial Visions (also on the excellent downwards comp So CLick Heels)

The KVB - Shadows from Immaterial Visons LP

The KVB - Pray To The Light Machine from Immaterial Visons LP

The KVB - Run Away single

There's also a really excellent Remix 12 in Cititrax

THE KVB - Lines (In Aeternam Vale Version)

The KVB - Pray To The Light Machine (Silent Servant Version)

They did a great Ike Yard Remix

Ike Yard - Cherish 8 (The KVB remix)

And they also record gloomy tech with Worn and as Burma Camp.

I saw them open for the Brian Jonestown Massacre, on their Australian tour, without having ever heard of them before. By the time they finished their set, I was a fan.

Did you buy the tour 7 inch? I got sent one as a present and I'm pretty pleased with it.

I think so. Female vocalist. Quite sheeny, soundscapey swells. We only caught a couple of their songs.

PS - FYI, IIRC, the KVB had a distinctly APTBS thing about them, IMHO. As usual the PA was OK too. :)

The Fauns are good, you should check them out. Geoff Barrow produced the LP.

The Fauns - Let's Go

The Fauns - Fragile

The Fauns Fragile (Clint Mansell Mix) This comes in really nice pale pink vinyl in a clear sleeve with a remix on the Bee by Reg Weeks. The album comes in pink too and has a spooky Robert Hampston Mix taking up the whole of one side (it's a 2/12)

The Fauns - Seven Hours

If anyone likes them even a little bit I'd buy theremix 12'(or the files), it's flipping magic.

I love how Minimal Wave make sticking it in a bog standard white archive/stock sleeve seem special;

a white hand stamped die-cut disco sleeve. :D

A brilliant companion piece to Immaterial Visions.

New EP up for pre-order in Gods favourite format 10'!

It's annoying that a preorder on itunes gets you the track below but ordering the vinyl gets you squat. >:(

Sample track across the sea.

I was a bit worried about the real drums, I know most folk prefer them to the electronic biscuit tin but I was worried real drums might not suit them (if it is 'real' drums on this track).

I just saw this, I'll add that I'm a fan but annoyed that all their vinyl releases haven't come with digital downloads as well. I pre-ordered the latest but I don't think it comes with the DL either. It's not the end of the world. And they are worth it.

New Mini LP is very different, or at least the emphasis has changed, kinda like a more 'tasteful' Horrors in many ways. Good stuff.

First track on the 10' or digital - All Around You :-*

They're pretty good, really lofi. Kind of remind me of Lebanon Hanover. I've actually heard of them before but never really gave them a serious listen till now.
