I just cannot get over this guy's skill.

It is pretty impressive, but it just doesn't do that much for me.  It's almost a novelty, like people who play with their toes.

I don't deny the dude's skill, don't get me wrong.  I couldn't do anything like that!  It's a cool vid though, thanks for posting it... :)

I love SJ but I don't own any records.  I don't think of what he does as a novelty.  People say things (not directed to you RoS!) like he's souless, but they're lumping him in with all the neo-classical 'shredders'.  It's fusion but it's Jazz.  Not my thing but it's got soul.  Anyway, it's not about the tapping IMO.  What gets me is how he plays like he has two brains!  That's the crazy part!  How can you play some crazy jazz 12 chord progession and improvise/solo over it simultaneously?  Jesus f***ing christ!

My sentiment exactly. ;D

I agree 100%.  I wasn't trying to take credibility away, it's just not my thing. :)

His playing is great, but I can't stand people that get so emotionally "taken" with their own music.  The look on his face is like he's hearing it for the first time and he's enjoying it more than anyone in the audience.  "Guitar face" is one thing, but this guy's into himself a little too much!
I play guitar the same way Harpo Marx played the harp, with a look of intense concentration! ;D
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

I saw him playing live once, he is really great!

But this special way of playing, in my opinion, is always something that limits you, so that all your songs sound the same or just give the same feeling. Anyway, he is really really a great guitar player.

Agreed, makes him seem like a carnival act.
