Yes, that's it :)

The John Peel biography (by his second wife, I think) is a rather good complement to Reynolds' book, as it documents Peel's enthusiasm for post-punk.

Evidently, Peel considered Young Marble Giants' 'Final Day' one of the best 1 min 41 sec ever committed to vinyl. I've always thought Peel was right in saying so.

It's got to be up there. I ended up missing most of Young Marble Giants' set at Primavera 2008 because of the weird way they organised the indoor venue there (same thing happened with Throbbing Gristle) but I did see them do 'Final Day' which was definitely one of the highlights of the whole weekend.

I've never been fortunate enough to see Young Marble Giants (or Throbbing Gristle, although I did see Psychic TV and interact with Genesis P-Orridge).

The only challenger to 'Final Day', for me, is The Durutti Column's 'Tomorrow' and at almost 3x as long it lacks some of the power of 'Final Day'.

i really like institute, from austin.

great mix of post punk and gothy peace punk, with very flux of pinx indians bass lines.

also, everyone in the band looks like something is wrong with them, which is a huge plus in my book.

Sumerian Fleet – Just Pressure it's seemingly delayed forever (yet more RSD blowback), I paid for the pre order months ago but if you like DAF/Klinik/A Split Second style babyoiled electronics. you might like it.

Sumerian fleet feature Alden Tyrell who IMO created one of the best Post Punk referencing dancefloor 12's.

The Tyrell Corporation - Alone Together

I've been listening to Clay Rendering a hell of a lot (Wolf Eyes' Mike Connelly and his wife Tara). They are kinda like a deathly, spectral, blackeyed Cranes (or maybe Children of God era Swans) playing Morricone in some cavernous metallic purgatory. :fp: Both beautiful and terrible...like a shark! There's only 2 12's and a 7' all on Hospital Productions (or 8 digital tracks if that's how you roll). Interesting also for the use of accordion, I know folk like Pauline Oliveros have used it very untraditionally but it's still fairly novel.

Clay Rendering EP

Clay Rendering - Myrrh is Rising

Clay Rendering - Waters Above The Firmament

Clay Rendering - Temple Walking like a doom version of Mass.

Clay Rendering - The Pest

Natures Confusion EP

Clay Rendering - Nature's Confusion

New Fire as Fall Rose 7'

Clay Rendering - Fire Is Fall's Rose

Clay Rendering - Red Roots

Sydney band Mere Women's new album Your Town is available for pre-order from Poison City Records.
They are also embarking on an Australian East Coast tour in August/September.

In the last couple of weeks I've greatly enjoyed newish records by these two new Post Punk(ish) bands.

Circuit Breaker A bit Pornography era Cure/early Chris and Cosey/Portion Control/pre 83 Cabaret Voltaire, very early Holger Hiller etc. Industrial in the truest sense and not in that metalz with electronic rhubarb stuck on top in the pish Ministry/NIN way.

Koban Kinda between Clan of Xymox and Xmal Deutschland.

Nothing tops the original post-punk bands of the late 70s and 80s. Wire, Killing Joke, Joy Division, The Chameleons, Sad Lover & Giants, The Fall, Echo & The Bunnymen, etc..

However, lately I find myself hooked to The Prids. Love this band.

I don't think anyone could do what those bands did as well as they did, but bands trying to "top" them typically aren't the bands that interest me. I think the modern post-punk bands that are worth listening to have either found their own sound, or sound like they could've existed at the same time as their idols.

Depends on what you are after, if you want big sounding guitar bands with charismatic singers you might be disappointed. Obviously there are exceptions like that last Twilight Sad album executive produced by Andrew Weatherall who is someone who I think gets ' it'. I'd say the same about Mirror Mirrorby Sons and Daughters (another track Ink Free which I think shows a bit of a debt to Red Light), again the producer JD Twitch is someone who I can talk about this sort of music to without having to explain or qualify anything (the Emperor Machine remix of Orion is superb Post Punk Disko that I'd have killed for when I play records in Goth clubs). Mirror Mirror is quite a sad tale because I was a bit of a sales disaster compared to their earlier records., which shows there's not a huge mainstream appetite for this sort of stuff. Since many of the good newer bands use a lot of synths, are more introspective and much of the good modern music informed by PP is tech of one kind or another. A lot of the modern stuff reminds me of a lot of period cassette only stuff and this kind of goes hand in hand with the likes of Vinyl on Demand who are pressing a lot of that sort of thing in a civilised format. It's also notable that there's lots more self contained female artists.

Sad to say most of the older bands either make no new records or terrible ones, the likes of Eyeless in Gaza, Ike Yard/Black Rain and Wrangler being exceptions. I've zero interest in the nostalgia circuit, I saw everyone in their pomp.

I've got close to all the old post punk records I'm ever going to buy, Its one of my things , I've thousands and go deep on it. I guess there might still be some out there but in the meantime, there's plenty of good modern stuff.

How awesome is that track!
But their last release is just average indie rock, bummer.
