That's good to know. Maybe I'll stream the rest of History Speaks to see if I dig the whole thing. I'm glad you said something though! I totally forgot about Bandcamp. Thought I signed up years ago, but apparently I hadn't. I picked up the CD for Secrets, and have a few other things I'd forgotten about checking out as well.
It definitely has its merits, and tbf I wouldn't have stuck around to check out Secrets if I hadn't also liked History Speaks. I'd just say the leap from the latter to the former is pretty profound on all fronts, imo. Eventually I think it's gonna have it's day in the sun because it's too good not to.

They just announced tourdates on the East Coast so I hope this means that the new album is just around the corner.
I hate the feeling when you know you're about due for a new album from someone, but no news is coming in. When I saw Japanese Breakfast last summer, they had a new song, and had mentioned that they were working on a new album, but so far nothing but a couple singles.
I feel like it takes forever for that kind of stuff to get announced now because the press cycles are so brutal and so many things have to be lined up.

I'm excited for another JB too. Another one of the few new acts that I'm really impressed with. Sadly missed seeing them for free at Summerstage this year :(

I feel like we're close to a new Japanese Breakfast album just because of the 2 or 3 tracks that they've released as singles. I mean, they seem to be standalone singles, which is cool, but it still feels like it, you know?

Also, thanks for the Secrets recommendation Steve! It came in the mail yesterday, and I've listened to 75% of it tonight on the way to work, and I REALLY love it. It's weird because usually I'll find a dud album every now and again, and it's been a while. The last 5 or 6 albums I've bought have just been perfect. I guess doing a little research and checking out the album first has been effective ;D

I'm so glad you like it. They are criminally underrated as a band in my opinion and the fact that they didn't make too many best album lists for that year with that one still stings. Hopefully the next one will get the proper PR push and make it into the hands of the right music press. They should be headlining shit.

I agree! I'd love to see a tour that has Deep Sea Diver, Japanese Breakfast, Alvvays, and Snail Mail all playing. It would be amazing.

That'd be nuts. I'm honestly surprised that J. Brekkie hasn't glommed onto DSD yet, but then again she's younger and out of a different scene so that might be why.

Never heard of her. Anything by her I might know?

Oh! I definitely know her stuff then. Don't do ANY social media though, so that makes sense I didn't know that. Haha. I would love to see a collaboration with Michelle and Jessica. That would be amazing.

Just wanted to rez this thread real quick:

Just saw DSD at Zone 1 of Elsewhere in BK and the new stuff sound really really good. They have some upcoming dates with Wilco that if any of ya are in the area, you should catch. Jess ended it with a cover of "Reservations" which was really somethin'.

I saw them in Chicago at the Vic (?) last weekend and they were great! It sucks that set was so short since they were opening. The new stuff was awesome! I'm definitely excited to see the new album. I was talking to Jessica at the merch booth and she said that the album's done, they're just trying to find someone to partner with and actually release it for them (label I think?). I suggested the idea to look into Cave And Canary, as I'd bet Casey would be down for a band as unique and awesome as them.
