I was a huge Sonic Youth fan who also loved Loveless, but my decision to finally pick up a Jazzmaster after years of thinking 335/Casino-type guitars and Rickenbackers were as good as it got was based on a rediscovered love of

after I put it on my phone/Walkman and found myself listening to it every day.

Subsequently discovered that a lot of the much-loved guitar playing I thought was TV's JM was actually RL's Strat. Maybe I should've stuck with those CIJ Strat-like pickups after all. :D

You!

I saw a sale for the Squier Cyclone, and thought it would be fun to have an inexpensive guitar. Researching led me here.

Since then, like a month ago, I started listening to MBV, SY, and Dino Jr. They're all pretty good. Wilco, on the other hand just isn't my taste, uck. And the Smiths, no thanks.
Today is a good day to die.

He has other people play his guitar for him, he's found you can buy an Indian child prodigy for pennies on the dollar.

I think it might have been Curve.

I saw them in '91 in the small Calton Studios venue in Edinburgh. My nose was 6 inches from a CAR Jaguar throughout the gig. It looked so cool. I wanted one.

edit: It's just dawned on me that 21 years ago I played a cover of this in the school band

£££

I found myself without work or food in the cupboard a few years back. So sold the only thing of value, my Telecaster 72 Thinline to raise some scratch whilst I got my act together.

Then a couple months later back on the 9-5, I started the search for a new guitar when I spotted a Japanese Jazzmaster in the local paper for £145......Bingo!
Thats how I got into them.

I leave it at the studio & only play it once or twice a week if we have a gig. I keep my Sheraton at home as its loud enough to enjoy playing unplugged so I don't wake my daughter, plus my partner thinks its a nice looker.

I realized back in 1989 that all my favourite bands/guitar players used Jazzmasters and Jaguars: J Mascis, Sonic Youth, Rowland S Howard, Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, Robert Smith and My Bloody Valentine. So I had to get one. Got a beautiful 1966 Jazzmaster in early 1990 for $800. Used it for all recordings and gig with my band until we parted in 1999.

I was working for a music store in '99 and Fender put on a clinic with some super shred player Gary something or other. Outside the store they had a little trailer that opened up and had all the '99 US and MIM guitars on display and the first Korg Pandora to jam through. I had never seen a JM in person at the time and they had a Sherwood Green AVRI. Best playing guitar I had laid hands on at that point. It was a moment for sure.

Cobain for me. Ever since I got the poster of him with the Jag, I wanted one.
