Without thinking too much "Le Gardien des Rêves" by Amenra just popped in my mind:

".we read scars and were the wounds.we pained our way and we knew then.we were
not coming back.her light.was all that came with me.as I descended.I was
building a world for you.as I descended.I found you in the darkness.as I
descended.our eyes.meet.a mirror.and in our tears shimmered this song.i reached
out my hands.in hope you would accept.to travel with me.through these dreams i
have kept.i wish we were and we always are.that wound."

Looking at you, reminds me of looking at the sun
And how the blind are so damn lucky

^^^Thanks for noticing. I love Insignificance. I really want to learn "All Downhill From Here" on guitar. Also, good call on Them Crooked Vultures.

People will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it
Andy Partridge of XTC, Snowman.

And I have to say, of all the songs I've written, my favorite line I ever came up with was
"You know I would change the color of the universe for you,"
from a song called "Baby Lay It Down."

One of my faves has to be

'Oh, he gave me a smile that was sickly and wet,
And I offered him one of my cigarettes.
He took it, afraid that he might appear rude,
Then proceeded to sell me some second class food.
Nice guy - meet 'em everywhere.. .'

This one poped up on my Ipod this morning on my way into work. Forgot how much I liked this song. :-*

She takes a plastic pill
She plays the weatherman
She screams "Religion kills
More than it saves you, man"
She painted filigrees
She was the acid queen
She claims society
Is just a fever dream

Now you live in the trees and salty seas
Trippin' out in the blue skies
You shut the door on everything
Too busy getting high
And me, just another dream theory
Lost inside your eyes

She's not in your history books
Lost her mind and kept her looks
Down beneath the radar screen
She's lit up like gasoline
Been through a million kix
Looking for the one that sticks
Never would've known it then
I might not see her again

O rose of my heart
Can't you see?
I don't belong to misery

Though she speak fine
With subtle art

Such misery clothes
The rose of my heart

Now what I see
In the long twilight
A star falls down
On the hill so white

Gordon Lightfoot, The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald

I just heard this song again and as usual I think I got something in my eye. I think it is an amazing blend of documentary story telling and artistic license in the service of songwriting art. Very moving.

Some favorite verses:

When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'
Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya
At seven pm a main hatchway caved in, he said
Fellas, it's been good t'know ya

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters

This last is pure poetry:

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen
And farther below, Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered

"Superior sings in the rooms of her ice-water mansion". Where does that imagery even come from? Genius.

He's got a bunch of amazing lyrics but I like this song from Robert Pollard quite a bit:

My Feet's Trustworthy Existance

Can this illusion be a lie?
Shaped to perfection just to suit you
Out and beyond the birds in flight
There where the angels come to greet you
Notify the minister right now
Man beast and his probe have cut down the sacred cow
And maintain a puritan state of mind
Gained through close encounters of a very different kind
They learn what's instructed them
They eat what is cooked for them
They stay in their houses if they want to
Live a wasted life

Sometimes the wind can blow us on
Silence and sorrow when the weight's off
No longer smothering the skin
No further torturing the soft heart
Other times my feet just gotta run
Feet must know happiness
And hands must have fun
This is why I trust where they must go
Anywhere is lovely when I rub my magic toe
And drink from a bottle
And think of another song
And make it sound nice
'Cause I don't want to
Live a wasted life...

I actually have part of this as my signature...

Slip Inside This House - The Thirteenth Floor Elevators.

Bedoin tribes ascending from the egg into the flower.
Alpha information sending. State within the heaven shower.
From disciples the unending subtleties of river power.
They slip inside this house as they pass by.

If your limbs begin dissolving in the water that you tread.
All surroundings are evolving in the stream that clears your head.
Find yourself a caravan, like Noah must have led.
And slip inside this house as you pass by.
Slip inside this house as you pass by.

True conception, knowing why. Brings even more than meets the eye.
Slip inside this house as you pass by.

In this dark we call creation we can be and feel and know.
From an effort, comfort station that's surviving on the go.
There's infinite survival in the high baptismal glow.
Slip inside this house as you pass by.

There is no season when you are grown.
You are always risen from the seeds you've sown.
There is no reason to rise alone.
Other stories given have sages of their own.

Live where your heart can be given and your life starts to unfold.
In the forms you envision. In this dream that's ages old.
On the river layer is the only sayer. You receive all you can hold.
Like you've been told.

Every day's another dawning give the morning winds a chance.
Always catch your thunder yawning. Lift your mind into the dance.
Sweep the shadows from your awning. Shrink the fourfold circumstance.
That lies outside this house don't pass it by.

Higher worlds that you uncover light the path you want to roam.
You compare there and discover you won't need a shell of foam.
Twice born gypsies care and keep the nowhere of their former home.
They slip inside this house as they pass by.
Slip inside this house as you pass by.

You think you can't, you wish you could. I know you can, I wish you would.
Slip inside this house as you pass by

Four and twenty birds of Maya baked into an atom you.
Polarized into existence. Magnet heart from red to blue.
To such extent the realm of dark within the picture it seems true.
But slip inside this house and then decide.

All your lightning waits inside you. Travel it along your spine.
Seven stars receive your visit. Seven seals remain divine.
Seven churches filled with spirit. Treasure from the angels' mine
Slip inside this house as you pass by.
Slip inside this house as you pass by.

The space you make has your own laws. No longer human gods are cause.
The center of this house will never die.

There is no season when you are grown.
You are always risen from the seeds you've sown.
There is no reason to rise alone.
Other stories given have sages of their own.

Draw from the well of unchanging, it's union nourishes on.
In the right re-arranging, till the last confusion is gone.
Water-brothers trust in the ultimust of the always singing song they pass along.

One-eyed men aren't really reigning. They just march in place until.
Two-eyed men with mystery training finally feel the power fill.
Three-eyed men are not complaining. They can yo-yo where they will.
They slip inside this house as they pass by. Don't pass it by.

:-*
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

This line from "6 Underground" by Sneaker Pimps: "Don't think 'coz I understand I care / Don't think cos I'm talking we're friends".

Brilliant.
