I worked in a piercing shop next door to a record store for like, 5 years. My boss there, and a few of my co workers, were like 15 when Nevermind came out- I was 8 when it came out. They would tell me stories about their first impressions of nirvana, and sitting in the back of the classroom with their buddy's Walkman, getting their first taste. One guy said he didn't eat lunch for a week, saving the money his dad gave him for food, then rode his Huffy like 10 miles after school to buy the tape. It just sounds so much more fulfilling and rewarding than torrenting a bands entire discography.

I would imagine that if it were a kid who was like 14 or under discovering that band when it first came out, maybe that would be something different. Since i was 16 or something when it came out my perspective of it has to do with more jockish kids picking up on it. You have to understand that music back then, well, the music I liked had this sort of secret handshake-y quality to it, being into that type of stuff came with a pile of stigma that is hard to explain to anyone who didn't experience it. Let's just say you enjoyed a childhood full of pointless assaults based on the music you listened to in the early 90's and late 80's. I am certain that many other folks here endured it as well.

The Nirvana stuff was weird. Weirder still when the whole "grunge" thing swept across America, although I missed it.

I'd moved to Germany in 92-93, came back home, and immediately cut my hair. (as Mudhoney was, once again, entirely prescient).

Basically, the subcultural signifiers were emptied out, so we had to start again. (dressing like the early 60s/my grandfather at the golf course: munsingwear, suits, "collegiate" style, etc). A couple of my roommates were in the "teen spirit" video. I, however, was a bit cooler, since I was actually from Seattle.

Ah, the 90s.

Got T.Rex's TANX a couple weeks back. Happy all that stuff is being reissued on vinyl, and it sounds so sweet.

Am not a live album fan (exception: Grand Funk Railroad's "Live Album"), but I'm going back and forth on the new Dropkick Murphys 2LP because the green marble looks so damn nice.
