when i was a weeeee lad in the 1980s. elvis costello was my favorite musician. i wanted to have poor eyesight when i was older so i could have glasses like him. i'm still rather fond of him and have two or three dvds in my collection. he sure is an odd one, though.

Re: ELVIS COSTELLO THREAD
techically never. he still plays them. But as far as losing it as his trademark, somewhere around 81-82. It was just kind of a defacto thing because it was on the cover of his first real album.

Elvis was on fire in his Austin City Limits appearance this year- man, he can really play!! And the Impostors kicked major ass behind him.
Add to that that he's one of the greatest songwriters working today and you've got some serious magic happening.

I thought his playing on The Delivery Man was great. The whole vibe of that record is real cool, there must have only been about 3 mics used total, a lot of room sound. I think everything on it was either Tele or L-5 though.

Re: ELVIS COSTELLO THREAD
Just saw him on TV live in Memphis, he used a pawn shop offset with chromey pickups and two rocker switches above the strings. The pickups were microphonic and he sang into them He also used his uglyburst jazzmaster with elvis costello inlay. Man he was fat.
Times change. Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky? Now it grows hair! We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

Love him. Way ahead of his time, I think...'No Action' is the current fave in the Peck residence.
