Dum Dum Girls - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

Always thought that a good singer covering Smith's songs would sound alright.

Seeing I'd be quite happy to cancel the remainder of 2020 and move straight to 2021, that would then make this is from my album of the year. Bambara Serafina.

Thanks for this, I heard another song a while ago and dismissed them as 'too rocky' (which in my case could well mean not rocky at all :D ) but I like this and I'll let you know how I get on with the elpee when it arrives.

Yes it's a funny one, I can hear a bit of heroin Nick Cave in it (when he was good), some Wall of Voodoo in the guitar and someone else I shared it with also offered up Crime and the City Solution, which like smacked out Cave featured OSG's fave Rowland S Howard, so I can definitely hear the link.
I've since gone and bought their back catalogue and there earlier stuff is much more Birthday Party which wins friends in this house.

D, have you heard the new Shopping release? It's another great one from them.

Weirdly I actually hear a bit of Flesh for Lulu in the guitars :P (which is I am sure just a coincidence), a dehokeyed Sixteen Horsepower, Breed, Gallon Drunk a wee bit, another song I heard the vocal phrasing kinda made me think of And also the Trees if they were American and not as romantic.

I'll catch up with the Shopping and let you know.

Red Axes - Sticks & Stones ft. Adi Bronicki (of Deaf Chonky) only digital for now but this is brimful of teenage lightning and a current favourite of the Shadowplay young team.

Andrew Weatherall - Unknown Plunderer almost a throw back track with it's Two Lone Swordsmen bass wobble riddum and possibly even reaching back further than that to Sabres days. Made me go looking for my Depth Charge records for some reason.

Andrew Weatherall - End Times Sound

Snow Ghosts - Heavy Heart (Mogwai Remix)

Zanias - (There Is No) Mothership

Church Of Raism - Night Scar beautifully horrible or horribly beautiful

AC Marias - Time Was It's impossible to overstate my love for AC Marias which has probably crossed the border into obsession. This Canned Heat cover features signature guitar peal from a certain Mr RS Howard.

And just because it's one of Lady Shadowplay's all time favourites; AC Marias - One of Our Girls Has Gone Missing.

And for the record my favourite; AC Marias - Our Dust

Nick Lowe Performs '(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding' From Home

Song starts at6:57

Its a rolling stone mag video

But it is always good to hear this song

This time it is made more poignant by realising Nick Lowe is in the age group most suspectible to the corana virus

Public Practice - Foundation I was off preordering their elpee and thought I'd revisit the EP
Public Practice . Very New York turn of the 80's think; Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Bush Tetras, Blondie, Television, Lizzy Mercier Descloux , The Rapture, a wee bit Gang of Four, Lonelady..you get my drift.

Public Practice - Into the Ring this also kinda reminds me of Pixies.

I also think their digital only cover of YMO's Yukihiro Takahashi - Extra Ordinary is a good effort.

Anne Margaret Hogan (or Anni or Annie Hogan as she best know through the years) - Timeshift. Possibly the most introspective ever Downwards release, coming on like a shadowside From Gardens Where We Feel Secure. Lovely looking package too...if that's not too Carry On!

Plone - Watson’s Telescope a dangerous tune...i was out a run and all of a sudden I was pirouetting the soft shoe shuffle through the budding wild garlic much to the distress of an old dear out walking her shih tzu and much to my own personal embarrassment. Joyous.

O Yuki Conjugate - Out Of Nothing just incredibly beautiful, like melange of Coil, jon Hassell and Ennio Morricone.

The Rapture - House of Jealous Lovers this still makes me feel a little crazy even after all these years...more cowbell than Heidi!

The Emperor Machine - Hey! (Ewan Pearson Skronk Disco Mix) with a feral Rapture on sexyphone. just so much banging energy and floor filling funk. Obviously posted this previously but I was just so in the mood to spin it.

:-*

I'd personally sneak Out Of The Races & On To The Tracks ahead of this one but it's still a fucking belter of a track!
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.
