I just went to Nokie Edwards' site. I found out he will be jamming and signing autographs at a bar near my hometown! ;D

I love the Ventures!!
Unfortunaltely, though, I think his website has not been updated and you confused June 2006 with June 2007...... That event was last year.

Yeah, the Ventures are among my favorite bands, particularly the older records with Nokie. Great stuff to play along with too. I grew up listening to "A Go Go Dancer" without even knowing who it was at the time since it used to be the signature tune of a very popular radio show from Luxembourg in the '70s. Some favorite albums of mine are "Where The Action Is", "Walk Don't Run" Part 1 and 2,"Surfing", "The Fabolous Ventures" and of course "Live in Japan '65".

I can say with all sincerity that "Live in Japan: '65" is my favorite live album of all time. I don't care how many "coolness points" I might lose picking that over Miles, Coltrane or the Velvet Underground...
I have never heard energy like that before. Mel Taylor and Nokie Edwards simply GO OFF on that recording. It's incredible.
It's even more incredible when you see video footage of that tour. The band was just STANDING THERE! Search "Beloved Invaders" (the name of a movie about the band's mid-60's tour of Japan) on YouTube, and you'll see what I mean.
How they managed to strangle those sounds out of their instruments while only slightly bobbing from side to side is beyond me...
