i'll watch it with French subtitles too if that means I can see it! :D I just wish I could watch it on ABC2 online. but i'm not in Australia. and being part of the Commonwealth doesn't give me access to their TV :P

i looked around and it doesn't seem like the DVD will have French subtitles...but you never know!

Anyone watch it last night ?

It was well done with input from a variety of people and fortunately there was enough interview footage of the man himself.

Being an age contempory of him, but not a fan of the Birthday Party at the time, it was interesting to hear their views of the times compared what was in the public domain.

For these sorts of shows you wish thaey had covered more topics, I would have liked to see and hear more about Crime and the City Solution and These Immortal Souls.

C&TCS might be my favorite band he played in, but they'll always be treated as a side note.

I watched it out of interest. Certainly have never been a fan of the Bad Seeds et al... but man, what a great great GREAT piece of musical doco work. Rowland was clearly a genius and ahead of his time. Clearly he inspired SY but he must have also been an inspriation for the likes of Jones and Drozd and the Lips in general and countless other bands that embrace the guitar as more then just 6 strings and some notes and chords. Rowland... wow.

And yeah, more focus on the latter part of his musical carrer would have been welcomed.

None the less, one of the finest music docos I have seen.

It was a moving film and could easily have been twice as long.
It was interesting to see the emphasis they put on his relationships with the women in his life and with his family.

It was surprising there were no comments regarding his physical appearance, the "elfin" look of his face. Back then I wondered who was that weird looking bloke and was it done with make up ?

Was there any comment why he only played the jag all those years ?
Musically there wasn't much context eg the No Wave scene and the start of the goth-rock thing.

The comment near the end about the realisation that for most of his life he did not acknowledge his drug use had wasted so much of his time was pathos in the extreme.

Another in the long line of drug abusers who had a poor relationship with their father.

Be kind to your children because they need you, now and for the future though you know it not.

I remember reading an interview where he said he recorded the guitar parts for 'the Friend Catcher' with a tape delay unit, though it didn't specify which.

For sometime in 80's-90's he just used a maxed out EQ into his amp and no pedals, and then sometime later he switched back to the pedals.

i believe it's only available through the australian site at the moment. i haven't found any other sources, and i get the feeling that the release isn't very widespread, so it won't be available through a large variety of retailers. could be wrong though!

I got a notice that mine was shipped. I didn't think it was supposed to come out until March, but I'm not complaining.
