And if they're going to force fans to buy the full boxset to get a few live shows, they could at least have the decency to include the contents of the otherwise out-of-print 2013 super deluxe edition. The Live & Loud soundboard, the Steve Albini 2013 mixes, the work-in-progress versions, etc.

Still listening to Nirvana when you’re older than 20 is a red flag…

I cannot imagine anything more antithetical to what Kurt Cobain wanted to do with his music than putting together a pretty little package of goodies and charging hundreds of dollars for it.

And I don't hold him up as any kind of idol or hero. I just knew that the fame and the money side of things really fucked him up. And this package is all about that stuff, and not the music.

I'll stream any remasters or whatever they did for the actual audio, because it'll pay almost nothing to anyone involved in cashing in on his legacy. He'd probably approve of that.

Yea your right it is basically a corporate thing and Kurt would be disappointed especially with the way Nirvana is seen now

EDIT:basically seen as a Hot Topic Brand

When people post threads about bands/things they like and you don't like them, please try to repress the urge to shit all over the thread. I get that this thread says "opinion" but it's not that hard to get the idea of what the OP is going for. Making shotgun jokes. Eh. It's not helping this conversation along.

Just think about some of the bands, guitars, movies, and people that you like and sometimes want to find some other people to chat with about it. Do you ever appreciate the person who swoops in and shares their really important opinion that they never liked that thing?

My example is I don't like PRS guitars. I think 95% of them look lame, and I think 98% of the people that play them play music that I can't stand. Do I need to tell all the PRS lovers out there when they just want to talk about their guitars? No. No I fucking don't. It's just my subjective and fairly arbitrary opinion. It doesn't help anyone, and that smug satisfaction I might get is hollow. Please try and do better.

I know. It was just a low-brow joke is all. I'll never understand the idolatry of the dude considering his lifestyle choices but I still like some Nirvana songs.

Working-class British humour (not the stuff you'd see on TV or movies) can be a touch too dark/sarcastic for a lot of audiences though, so I'm sorry.

Madness - I wasn’t all that much of a Nirvana fan at the time (they were too popular for cool guy me) but In Utero particularly is incredible - abrasive, melodic, sledgehammer heavy. Similar thrills to Rid of Me which I’m still delighted to listen to a few decades past my 20s.

Was mildly interested until I saw the $500 price tag.

Nope. And yep, Kurt would’ve loathed the concept.

Are/were the Albini mixes from the last ‘reissue’ notable?

Yeah, I don't think there's an age limit on any music. I fuckin' love me some Caspar Babypants.

The age-related flag to me is when you're older than 20 and still use a band to define your personality. It's fine to be "the obsessed Nirvana fan" in Grade 9 or whatever. If that's still your defining characteristic as an adult, you need to start actively working on developing your self-identity.

For the record I think it’s equally cringe when someone in their mid 30s or older still listens to pop punk like Blink and Green Day. They’re both pretty immature.
And secondly, Nirvana weren’t a phenomenon because of their music, plenty of better bands out there at the time that didn’t look as good on a poster. 90s heroin chic being what it was, if Nirvana looked like the Melvins I doubt they’d have been nearly as popular.

The most inane and imbecilic crap going on here is that someone asks for an opinion on a new release of an old album and instead, OSG users, which I used to hold in higher regard than the trash on other guitar forums, can’t help themselves from a 9th grade discussion on Cobain’s suicide, plus the overall quality of Nirvana, Green Day and Blink 182. Fucking hell.
