No...never heard of them.
Where's a good starting point? Self-titled or something later?

Let me put on my editor's hat and add some punctuation.
The band's name was Scars on Broadway, but they've now changed it to Daron Malakian and Scars of Broadway to drive home the point that it's become his solo project. Their first, self-titled album was released in 2008, and every other member of the band was kicked out by the time he released the 2018 follow-up, appropriately titled Dictator.Bro, Scars on Broadway - IT'S F*CKING AMAZING
I'm getting the vibe that Serj Tankian was not the reason System of a Down hasn't released any new material since 2005. He's collaborated with everyone under the sun. Daron seems to have trouble playing nicely with others.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

Re: Bro Scars On Broadway
Scars on Broadway’s first album was actually good. However, I do think it was Serj who branched off first. I remember reading interviews from the other band members that they couldn’t get him to come back. With that said, Malakian seems like a huge diva. But, imho is the brains behind everything the band did outside of Serj’s luring operatic style and stage presenceEmbenny wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 6:14 amLet me put on my editor's hat and add some punctuation.

Yeah, I'm not trying to say that Serj was the one trying to keep the band together or anything, but after seeing how many people he has successfully collaborated with compared to Daron, it seems likely that he wasn't the most difficult personality in the band to get along with.
Just conjecture from a distance. Sometimes certain personalities are just plain incompatible.

Oh certainly. It’s unselling. I do remember reading a story once where daron and John got into a physical fist fight once that landed them both in the ER. Almost broke up the band at the height of their success but they ended up laughing about it and shaking it off the same night. I do wish they wouldn’t have bowed out at the height of their success. They were a big part of what got me into guitar music and Daron’s use of the SG made me really gravitate towards those. Later I ended up getting an iceman and painting like the one from his early days. Needless to say I was a huge Daron fan as a teenager
