Anyone out there a fan of Blue-grass???
Just saw this young Grammy nominated band perform: Po' Ramblin' Boys .... They knocked it out of the park. What great energy! Breath- taking voicings, tremendous instrumentals, perfect acoustic sound ....
Any fans of bluegrass out there? What band do you like?
They dont play electric instruments, but they jam hard.
And their vocals ..., a good template to what a guitar solo can sound like.
Laura, on the fiddle and vocals, she's terrific. They all are. Google them if you are unfamiliar with old time mountain music.
Peace!

Haven’t been exposed to much of it til recently. Went to a bluegrass jam with my dad and ended up enjoying it a lot more than I expected.
I’ve been enjoying more modern or mixed stuff than old timey bluegrass. Really digging trampled by turtles.

Wow!!! CCD is definitely Bluegrass. (And then some.) As is Trampled by Turtles, with a modern spin. Terrific music. Great bands. Gonna have to check them out if I have the opportunity. Thanks for suggesting it guys.
Both bands can give Metal a run for their money. So much energy.

Just an update on this extremely popular, and old thread:
I just saw a young lady play, and wanted to highly recommend her to you if interested. Her name is Sierra Hull, and she's IMHO the best mandolin player today. She is astonishing.
She does a cover of a Tears for Fears song on youTube, with a solo, Clapton would envy!!! Ain't kidding, and on a MANDOLIN!
She's the best.

I'm no lawn fetishist (I'm more of a clover/wildflower meadow type of person), but I do know that many of the popular species of lawn grasses are, in fact, called bluegrass.
This is Kentucky bluegrass, for example:

Back to the topic at hand, I'm not hugely into bluegrass, but I can enjoy it when it's particularly good.
And you know who's particular good? How about some Canadian boys who play bluegrass with a cellist who wears his cello like a bass guitar? Check outThe Dead South. They're amazing.
