I was just wondering if anybody here likes Minimalist music, like Steve Reich or Philip Glass.
Its my current genre uin music GCSE and I;m really enjoying it, it's so unique and exciting but sometimes weird..... what do you think?

GCSE is type a british compuslory course that replaced the O levels, but you wouldn't know what that is either, so basically its a set of courses you have to choose to do.....kinda

I'm a big fan of Reich and Glass. Steve just turned 70, you know. Great interview with him at Pitchfork, of all places:

Re: Minimalism
Thanks for that long, it's a good read, do you like John Adams? (not the united states president), his piece 'Short Ride on a Fast Machine' is really good and unlike romantic and classical, where the brass was just repetitive, dull and dreary, it overpowered the strings, which is nice to see

Love all that stuff .. Reich, Glass (not so much I guess), Cage, Lamonte Young, Morton Subotnik, etc.
There's a point where the avant garde and indie rock meet .. Glenn Branca is just on the other side of it .. Thurston Moore crosses back and forth regularly.

i love minimalism and monotony. there´s something about endless repeating of a few notes that really gets inside your brain.

yeah, me too. You should check out Liars' "Drum's not dead", it's full of that sort of thing.

Re: Minimalism
Good Morning!
Theoretical Girls are gas, but the records are hard to get, even on P2P.
I'd like to get my hands on the No New York sampler that was compiled by Eno (there
was a Japanese Re-Issue on Amazon a while ago, but they're out of stock).
I highly recommend the Balanescu Quartet's rendition of the Kraftwerk tunes.
P. Glass: "koyaanisquatsi, koyaanisquatsi, koyaanisquatsi... "
Cheers, M

Re: Minimalism
they played here, but I couldn't go, I was gutted. According to the guy who ran it, there were only about 15 people there, but they really destroyed the place anyway.

Re: Minimalism
I've got a Russian re-issue of No New York that I picked up on Amazon this year, maybe you could nab that? Great packaging, with extensive liner notes......in Russian. But, it's a decent master/transfer.FUZZ_KING wrote: I'd like to get my hands on the No New York sampler that was compiled by Eno (there

Re: Minimalism
Anybody seen that Reich Works 10CD Boxset? £70 (approx. $138.54) and seems kind of like a waste of money to me.
And why do they have such a problem with Glass in the simpsons? they insulted him both episodes on Sky One the other day

Yeah, I'm a Reich fan but that does seem awfully expensive.Naturality wrote: Anybody seen that Reich Works 10CD Boxset? £70 (approx. $138.54) and seems kind of like a waste of money to me.

I got to see Philip Glass and the Kronos Quartet play his soundtrack for Dracula live at the University of Arizona in Tuscon. They set up behind the screen where they projected the picture and you could seem them every so often during the movie. Afterwards, Glass and company took questions from the audience, which was really, really cool. To this day it's my favorite work of his.
