That was funny. I still remember the shock of seeing the Cure live for the second time circa 1981, just as they entered their "funereal" phase, after having seen them for the first time in 1980 just as the masterpiece of Seventeen Seconds was released .. which was darker than Three Imaginary Boys, but not that dark. The 81 show opened with the 30 minute Carnage Visors video, which showed where things were heading...

Never bought a Cure record again, even though I can see some merit in that period of work now. But their later poppy stuff was the nail in the coffin for me. I still play Seventeen Seconds regularly.
