the suddenly ubiquitous Billie Eilish, "No Time To Die"

first impressions:

- hits all the expected musical tropes and motifs
- way better than the Sam Smith POS
- feels like she cut in line ahead of Lana Del Rey
- should have bummed some smokes from Beth Gibbons before the session

I can't listen at the moment, but speaking of tropes..."No time to die" sounds like something that was created using an internet 'Bond Film Name Generator'

Much more subtle than the usual Bond theme which is a good thing after Sam Smith's trash - arrangement more about building the atmosphere she builds in her own music with Bond music tropes which works well around her voice and pushes her into something slightly new as well... so pretty good on the whole but not an amazing or mindblowing song by any means.

The title comes from a war movie produced by the original Bond producers and director of the first Bond movie I believe

I like it a lot. I love how the voice takes most sonic space in the quiet parts. Hell, the quiet parts are the best, some awesome haunting sounds. I really like the production overall.

Couple of "bond cliches" here and there, the swooping strings, the m6 chord at the end.

I know she's a bit hyped but Eilish' voice is great and some I think the kid's got it. She's very talented.

I can totally see this sung by a more broken voice. Beth Gibbons or Martina Topley-Bird would fit the bill nicely.

Well stated. Weird how "Bond theme" is a whole genre at this point.

That Sam Smith tune was an absolute bore, as is all of his music as well as his personality. You could stick a microphone in front of a wall and get more exciting sounds coming from it than Sam Smith is capable of producing. He could be on fire and his screams would fail to be compelling. Sam Smith is the color beige in human form, but less interesting.

I think subtlety is ok, but it should be a rule that there's a cheesy line about spies or something. I'm also in favor of going full cheese, Shirley Bassey style. I think the 80's would disagree with me, but that Duran Duran bond theme sucked. I don't know much about Bond movies after Goldeneye, but the Madonna theme from one of those kind of sucks as well.
