Cool performance... Mdou Moctar if anyone knows him

Post by Larry Mal » Mon Jan 13, 2020 7:24 am

Fun stuff- I just stumbled across this last night. It's a hell of a thing, a lot of guitar heroics, but it's Tuareg guitar heroics so I don't mind it.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I only became aware of him a few weeks ago, but I can't stop listening/watching his performances. Great stuff! The rhythms are hypnotic and his playing is eye-popping. The groove his band gets into and the varying tempos they employ are rare these days, at least for me.

He is coming through Omaha in April -- we were asked to open for him (which is how I became familiar with the music), but one of our other guitarists has a conflict that night. Still trying to work it out.
"I'm nostalgic for conversations I had yesterday. I've begun reminiscing events before they even occur. I'm reminiscing this right now. I can't go to the bar because I've already looked back on it in my memory, and I didn't have a good time."

Yeah, I see he played here pretty recently, and basically a short walk down the street from me. Sorry to have missed that.

It's great stuff!

That was positively mesmerizing.

I usually check out KEXP's videos (fantastic acts and superlative engineering every time), but I seem to have slept on this one. That was phenomenal, thanks for posting.

If I had known you didn’t know, I would have told you. Dig through his catalog. I feel like every record is totally different and amazing. Also, I mean, "Rain the Color of Blue with a Little Red In It", c’mon. Cool as shit!
