Re: What is the most beautiful Melody you've ever heard?
I don't listen to Keith Jarrett enough to go and pick out a beautiful piece...but, I know I've listened to him with the same kind of wrapt awe that I've had with some of these other pieces listed.
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Yes! And how about The Portland Cement Factory At Monolith, California? After an intro that is almost too long, he starts playing the main melody and... That moment always raises the hair in the back of my neck.W.L.Weller wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 6:28 pmI'll see your Sligo River and raise you the Sunflower River:Hilarion Lefuneste wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 5:51 pmAnd now for something completely different: John Fahey - Sligo River Blues

The "resolving" phrase that's first introduced about 1:35, that always gets me in the throat.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I guess if I was going to talk about a song lousy with melodies, this might be it.

I deliberately left this thread alone so I could think properly about it & give certain songs I might've overlooked a chance to surface. I'm glad I did.
I'm now certain that Washer by Slint is the most beautiful melody I've ever heard

Hard to separate Gymnopedie #1 and Gnossienne #1 by Erik Satie. Such very simple, pretty, melancholic pieces, that really get in your head.
I also adore the chord progression in Skyscrape by Idaho

Not necessarily my favourite- I have too many- but this by Beethoven is an awesome piece.
Love Claire De Lune, too; I just gave my son the sheet music for christmas and he's busy deconstructing it. Really beautiful.

Lots of great stuff mentioned here. Here's one of my favorites. Ray Brown and Monty Alexander playing Thelonious Monk's Round Midnight.

Alive Again is probably my favorite of Jeff Martin's melodies.
Have You Forgotten by Red House Painters is also a great melody/song.

Tommy Emmanuel has always struck me as the Joe Bonamassa of acoustic guitarists. An incredibly technically gifted cover artist, with a huge online following of boomers, whom is incapable of producing any original material that interests me in the slightest. He is to the Acoustic Guitar Forum what Joe Bonamassa is to The Gear Page.jakeisjake wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 7:15 pmsorry to bogart the thread...

Fingerstyle acoustic guitar has long been "my jam", and I can't tell you how many conversations about music have started and ended with someone saying, "Oh, you like acoustic guitar? Have you heard of Tommy Emmanuel?"
That performance, like many of his covers, is of course delightful.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

added: I know what you mean about Bonamassa on TGP. I've actually never listened to him...but I suppose he's a good player.
TE is a bit...cheesy, I think. But he's a great player.

Hard to pick a single song. So many songs with beautiful melodies.
I'll post two that I can think of at the moment:
Sloan - Coax Me (lead guitar's melody is fantastic throughout the song)
Loreena McKennitt - The Mystic's Dream (the main melody played by the string instruments is beautiful and intense)
