The other one that may be a bit overblown is the idea of "virgin vinyl."
One well-regarded cutting engineer I know says that sometimes the vinyl stock with some percentage of re-grind (reclaimed/recycled vinyl) can actually be quieter due to the chemistry being a little bit different after being processed more than once (I don't remember exactly). You just have to be careful about contaminants.
I am not a materials scientist or chemist, so I can't speak with any authority on that... but he's experienced with great ears, and that's what he said.
