so...what was up with employing two basses? Aside from the why(?) (altho I am a bit curious about that, too)...I always thought Weymouth was a pretty good bass player
but
how did they pull it off? was one turned down? why isn't it a messy soup of thump?

A little while back I posed an interview with Tina Weymouth and she talks about playing with the other bassist. I don't remember what she said exactly, but she didn't seem disgruntled about it and seemed to consider it to be part of adding sonic character to the show.
