Yoko Ono is an amazing, highly intelligent and sensitive artist

I assume the link was meant as a (piss poor, if so) joke, but I found that performance cool.

I’ve always found this song to be so moving. Anyone who can be that vulnerable and emotive is truly an artist.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Don't get the Diamanda Galas comparison at all, IMO it's a bit like comparing a gecko to Godzilla.

Truly an incredible vocal. It has everything I'm always trying to capture when I'm making records.

Most people don't understand how very rare it is to be able to capture something like this. So few people have the courage to get out of their "I'm a good singer" mode and deliver something this real and true.

I think Brad's post kind of explains it. Galas is an extraordinary vocalist, willing to explore the limits of "good singing," especially back in the 80s.

Still don't get it, she's light years from someone bawling in a gallery, whether you like it or not. I once saw her do the Masque of the Red Death in a shipyard in Linz and she was seemingly simultaneously shrieking like a genuine banshee, cackling like a witch, whispering like a child, regurgitating a demon and soaring in the stratosphere like a burning soprano entering the atmosphere.

A comrade of mine told Lady S he was both aroused and terrified.

Her records, her singing, her performances...everything... are nothing like Yoko Ono, it's totally bizarre to see you compare them. i'd also say she's a 'good' singer by any standard, she's just got insane depths and headroom to go literally anywhere from Heaven to Hell and everywhere inbetween.

I'm not really looking to argue or being argumentative but the notion just struck me as bizarre because in no world would you file them together.

I've found that reactions to singing are very personal, idiosyncratic, and, often, irrational. I think my reaction falls into that category. For some reason, I felt a connection.

I'm not sure that Yoko considered her gallery performance "singing", so we may be comparing apples to oranges. She is a conceptual/performance artist which means that deconstucting, and challenging definitions and expectations of what art is is a big part of her philosophy.

Incidentally, John credited Yoko's warbling as a forerunner to the B-52s. When he first heard them he was quite proud that Yoko was ahead of her time.
