Mid to later period Einstürzende Neubauten (e.g. Sabrina, Stella Maris) would probably go down well :)

Looking forward to heading out there... Will be my first visit to Leipzig...
Hey! I'm from Leeds too!! :freako:

I’m not originally from Leeds, however this is where I decided to settle... Been here almost ten years now and I can’t think of ever returning back down south :)

Or Afterhours by the Sisters.
Magic track.

Yeah... first time I saw the sisters live, they played Emma half way through and then ended on Afterhours, with a last chord played by the band put through infinite delay. It was still going after everyone had left the club. Genuinely fantastic.

I used to man their merch stall as a kid before they had hits and the fans became arseholes. An incredibly frustrating band, either amazing* or terrible and IMO Eldriches descent into pantomime rockism and total creative desert is one of music's great losses. When the cringey geetar started to come in I decided to leave them to it, first with Hussey's 60's isms and then later with the skeewiddle.

Weirdly Eldrich had a decent feel for the dancefloor displayed on Mexico Sundown Blues which is like Dead or Alive crossed with the Sisters, though the best James Ray track is probaby Edie Sedgwick which isn't far off Afterhours crossed with Never Land (A Fragment).

*Independent singles great (though not much of a fan of Temple of Love and I fucking despise the rerecording), Body and Soul great, First and Last and Always 80% crap, Floodland 10% crap, Vision Thing 100% crap. Sisterhood Gift is good. I've not seen them live since 1985 or something by I've heard the are rockist claptrap these days with all sorts of cell disrupting shred guitar and the like. For me they are best at their most simple and repetitive like a minimal wave band with guitars.

I don't think i've seen them since 1984, but yeah, the first few singles and eps were great. I won't hear a bad word against Temple's b side, Heartland.... it was definitely the beginning of the end when Hussey joined, and Eldritch decided not to write any of the songs on the first LP. Really weird decision. And then to let the band record the album without him, by all accounts.
It still strikes me that they could have gone from Alice to full blown techno in two or three records if they'd held their nerve. It's a real shame the stuff on Gift was never developed and the rockisms weren't shelved forever.
I suppose it's the basic problem with an unstable line up. Or bad management. They were so close to anticipating stuff like the Shamen- but infinitely better- and it would have really worked, I think.

Anyway, back to the yoga.

A good end of town :) Did you study in Leeds, by any chance? LS6 would be an obvious choice.
I'm a Moortownian, spending most of my formative years around Chapel Allerton, Harehills & Gledhow.

The funny thing is that I always got them mixed up with Fields of The Nephilim when I was new to "the scene" because to my ears they must have sounded absolutely identical. It took me some time to notice that these were two different bands...

Absolutely. And records that sound like they were produced in a tin can.
By the way, my confusion was based on Sisters songs like the re-recorded "Temple of Love" and "Moonchild", probably the only Fields... song I can remember.

Nah, i took redundancy when i lived in Cambridgeshire then decided to up sticks and move up here where the gf lives and where i have a few friends... It was a good choice given most of my friends down south had moved to London. I loved LS6 with the Brudenell close by but it was just getting a bit too much with some of the student neighbours so we decided to buy in Bramley :)

A quick word of thanks to everyone for helping out with the playlist.

The studio owner almost fucked the event up by charging waaaay too much for tickets, resulting in a complete no-show for the first event (which was hosted by a different teacher with classical music). Immediately after this, and with barely 48 hours until my event, we persuaded her to reduce the price & I got 8 people come out of a possible 12. I'm certain, had the price been fairer, that we'd have filled both classes, probably being able to squeeze 4 or 5 more people in too. Ah well.

A couple of pics...

I'll have to post some actual photos of the folk who came to the WGT 2019 event as it was absolutely nuts!!! While it really isn't my thing at all you can't but appreciate the time, effort & probably money people put into their outfits. Man, goths have changed since sorry, miserable motherfuckers I remember back in the late 80s in Leeds (OK, that was a bit mean. Only 95% of them were miserable).

Disappointing lack of backcombing and eyeliner there Mark and it's a great shame your plans and preparation were stymied by mismanagement.

I can't speak to the quality of late 80's goths (i'd already cleaned off the khol by then) but early 80's ones are the only ones worth bothering about anyway. Today's lot seem a baw hair from heavy metal anyway.
