From this side of the world, you could try You Am I ..

early: Adam's Ribs

Brit invasion phase: Good Mornin'

more recent: Beau Geste

The inimitable Hummingbirds: Alimony.

The Hoodoo Gurus: Tojo.

The Clouds, very clever tight little pop songs e.g. Hieronymous.

Knievel, not very well-known Oz band but notable for containing Wayne Connolly, producer for all sorts including Underground Lovers - a lot of their stuff was mellow but some qualified as power pop e.g. Might As Well Be Gone.

The Chills, Heavenly Pop Hit is the best pop song ever written, although not much "power" but they got a bit more like that as they went on e.g. The Male Monster from the Id.

Leaving the antipodes, did we mention the dBs yet? most conversations involving Big Star/Game Theory/Let's Active seem to swing by the dBs at some point, e.g. Amplifier.

And speaking of Mitch Easter: Orange Humble Band - Assorted Creams - which also contained Ken Stringfellow (I assume "usual suspects" included the Posies) and Darryl Mather from the Lime Spiders who were a lot of power with a dash of pop e.g. Weirdo Libido.
Distance-crunching honcho with echo unit.

yes! and the dBs' reunion album from a few years ago, "Falling Off the Sky," was chockablock with tasty tunes from the Stamey/Holsapple hook mill. great production too, as you would expect -

I want to listen to new rock. Something that is loudish and that I can sing along to, but not in the classic rock vein.

Also, power pop. I got into Game Theory lately. Something like this would be nice. I already know the usual suspects (Big Star/Matthew Sweet/Teenage Fanclub/etc.)

So basically, catchy songwriting + a bit of distortion is what I am looking for. Any help?
Sorry to state the obvious, but one never knows...

Old power pop, check out what many of your '90s heroes had on their turntables when they were cutting their teeth: The Smithereens Especially For You

And because I still rock it Mesozoic style, Badfinger.

Speaking of Game Theory, the drummer Jozef Becker went on to join my favorite band from the Davis scene, Thin White Rope. Disclaimer, does NOT fit your criteria.

Material Issue has some great songs
they all kind of sound the same (but, hey, doesn't most "power pop") and all the best ones are titled with girls names...but i guess that doesn't matter.

If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Going way back, Pezband from the Chicago area - mid to late 70s: https://youtu.be/2FoMHDdjLsE

Has anybody mentioned Badfinger https://youtu.be/9k_aj6b2xsA or the Raspberries?

Power pop isn't really my sort of thing but I'll chip in three suggestions that haven't been mentioned.

Shoes

Most folk would probably do well to start with

the Black Vinyl Shoes elpee, Boys Don't Lie is a classic of it's sort and a little more sonically interesting than most of this ilk.

and the Present Tense elpee

Telephone (who are French) look at the Crache ton venin elpee

Milk N Cookies

(Dee, Dee You're) Stuck On A Star

The Last Letter

Not Enough Girls in the World

Little, Lost and Innocent

Six Guns

and something I really do like though probably too scuzzy and lofi to be 'real' power pop. Still a very good seven inch

Garage Class - Terminal Tokyo

Garage Class - I got Standards

D
Are you loathsome tonight?

I was ecstatic to finally see the Chills last weekend. Just amazing from start to finish.

(Seattle-centric list):
Are The Posies too obvious a recommendation here? (They actually were in Big Star)
Flop
Green Pajamas “Kim the waitress
The Fall-Outs (on second thought: maybe way too garagey for this thread, but still underrated)

Larry has covered a lot of the late 70s 'deeper dive' power pop I've been a fan of. Records, Nerves, Flaming Groovies.

I was able to track down a reissue of this album by the Leopards-- some killer tracks on here, and their singles are great.

Maybe not for the OP, but if you want to get lost in random power pop singles from the 70s and 80s this guy has an AMAZING youtube channel. Admittedly some of the songs are a slog, but there are some gems as well and for me it's sort of like time travelling.

Some classic bands I consider power pop, these are some "hits" but the bands are great:

Superchunk - Hyper Enough
Superdrag - Who sucked out the feeling
Fountains of Wayne - Denise
Ash - Girl From Mars
Mercury Rev - Bronx Cheer
Lemonheads - Rudderless
Nada Surf (already mentioned) - Whose Authority
Jaguar > Jazzmaster :)

Our last album came out in August 2018.

Also if you don't already listen to the Vapors (New Clear Days specifically) or the Jam, you'd be well to check those out as well.
