So my daughter made this mainland Europe post punk mix you might enjoy

Post by shadowplay » Thu Dec 06, 2018 4:24 pm

One of my middle kids made up a mix of Belgian music for my comrades child who is Belgian but declared 'all Belgian music is shit', this then led to a second mix of European post punk but with the UK and Germany sidelined for once.

This wee mix has been a bit of a hit within our magick circle and I thought I'd upload it and share it here. It ranges from Sweden all the way down to Spain and takes in everything from low light coldwave to goth screamers. She picked the tracks, mixed them and I only really helped her a tiny wee bit and to be honest she treated any advice I gave her on where she'd gone wrong with the track selection and sequencing with the contempt it deserved. The mixing is decent but not perfect but she's mixing something that that shouldn't really mix.

She's our little ten year old pocket goth and this is panda eyed fun for all the family.

European Suns of the Phoenix - Euro Post Punk and Coldwave minus the UK and Germany

Tracklist (there's 25 songs, one for each day in December up to Christmas) :D

Victrola - Game of Despair
Moral - Whispering Sons
Trisomie 21 - The Last Song
Pink Turns Blue - Your Master is Calling
Jeunesse D'Ivoire - A Gift of Tears
Clan Of Xymox - A Day
Asylum Party - Julia
Winter Light - Always Unique
Isolation Ward - Try Again
La Bambola Del Dr Caligari - Deep Skanner
The Schmutz Sisters - La Folle
Sort Sol - Marble Station
Fra Lippo Lippi - Sense of Doubt
Violet Eves - Listen Over the Ocean
Poésie Noire - Love is Colder Than Death
Nightshift - The Names
Diseño Corbusier - Golpe De Amistad
Flesh & Fell - The Hunger (Club Mix)
Secret Life - Witches
Clair Obscur - Toundra
Siglo XX - La Vie Dans La Nuit
S.M. Nurse - On and Off
The Neon Judgement - TV Treated
Grauzone - Eisbär
The Leather Nun - Slow Death

I've been avoiding the music section for a while because I'm broke and it's more temptation than I can endure, but I'm glad I popped in for this.

A black overdyed 'well done' to the young Shadowlet...this has filled Castle Nanamour with the best sort of dry ice chill. I hear you about the mixing/sequencing in certain places but there aren't any real gear grinders and it's genuinely smoother than a lot of what I hear from people being paid the buxx for playing out around these parts. Great track choices too, comes out of the gate bounding with three favorites of mine and just keeps on going strong.

A good bit of this is new to me,especially the more Mediterranean-adjacent groups, so send my thanks to the Countess of Continental Coldwave for the introduction to some awesome Italian and Spanish stuff. Can't wait to see what else I discover listening to this in full on my run tomorrow!

Has she played out at all yet?

You're very kind.

Young Phoenix is mortified that I put up here and also passed files around; 'I should post your music, you'd not be laughing then'. She's playing her school Christmas party but she's already complaining that a primary school Christmas party isn't ideal for a young black heart...'more dry ice, I need more dry ice' (she didn't actually say that).

We locked horns over a few songs from a mixing point of view but I think it was actually me in the wrong, sure she had to hammer the square peg into a round hole but she's right in just picking stuff she likes and not just picking for mixing and I think she's got a good blend of dark disco 'hits' and bargain bin scrapings. I think it's a good idea to look at the scene with the two big players excluded.

She's a good kid and showing real signs of putting what she's learned into her own music which looks to be blacker than a raven's wing.

Enjoyed what I was able to listen to before anyone came into the office, I'll have a listen to the rest tomorrow.

Tell her that her crazy right wing American uncle is going to listen to a track a day til Christmas. And I actually own one of those records--that is a pretty good average for me. I have had an interest in Euro cold/minimal wave for awhile, so thank you both for sharing your playlist.

:D

The song you own is a total classic, frankly everyone should own it or get this treatment from Krampus.

I actually never heard it, only their later stuff, early 90's and on.
