3 songs you can listen to over and over (and over and over)

Post by jakeisjake » Thu Nov 29, 2018 2:56 pm

1. Impossible Germany (Wilco)
could have said the live version of Ashes of American Flags, too
(first only because that's what i'm listening to over and over right now).

2. Eyes of the World (Grateful Dead)
could have said Stella Blue, too
(it often gets listened to over and over and over again).

3. Ahead by a Century (Tragically Hip)
could have said Bobcaygeon, too
(not much to say about it...great song, great band)
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Man, I've got SO many that would qualify. Getting that down to 3 would be near impossible.

Currently:
Alvvays - In Undertow
Japanese Breakfast - The Body Is A Blade (or This House)
Carpenter Brut - Roller Mobster

All-Time (no promise on only 3, but I'll take a crack, but will likely change my mind later ;D):
Dredg - Hungover On A Tuesday
Dear Hunter - Is There Anybody Here?
Circa Survive - The Greatest Lie
Shiny Toy Guns - Somewhere To Hide
La Dispute - The Last Lost Continent
Nakagawa Kotaro - Jupiter Highway (from the Planetes soundtrack)
Meiko Kaji - Flower Of Carnage
Lettuce - Phyllis
Michael Giacchino - The Incredits (credits track from the first Incredibles)
The Temper Trap - Never Again
Marvins Revolt - Siberia
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Workin' For The MCA
Pickup Switching Mad Scientist

There are plenty of songs I really like, but I don't tend to listen to things over and over (and over) there is lots of other music to enjoy.

I have been able to listen to Original Sin by INXS repeatedly and I still like it.

Its good but not a favourite song.

There aren't many others.

one INXS song i can listen to a lot is "Don't Change"...which is, i think i remember, the song that introduced them to the world (or, at least, to me)

here is another one

Lowtide - Julia/Spring

It's cheating a bit as it is two songs but they are paired in the video and that is how I always hear them.

There are probably hundreds, maybe thousands, so to narrow it down I'll go with three Wire songs I could listen to endlessly: Outdoor Miner (7" version), The 15th, Marooned.

Great topic for a thread. I had to think about distilling this down to just three.

1) Colin Hay - Waiting for my real life to begin. This was the theme song of my life for many, many years. I saw him perform it live in a small venue with nothing but an acoustic guitar when I was 18 and it was transcendental. It has not diminished in its impact with the thousands of times I've listened to it.

2) Pinback - Loro. Few songs have smacked me in the brain as hard as this one the first time I heard it. It's one of those songs I'd do anything to be able to hear for the first time again. I have used it on repeat to get to sleep, it has a way of putting me in an almost hypnotic trance. Have seen them play it live and every time,

3) Phil Ochs - When I'm Gone. Timeless. A perfect marriage of lyrics, melody, and musicianship. All the more impactful and haunting in retrospect, knowing what it foreshadowed.
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

1. Pell Mell - Drift
When I was a teenager I copied this song onto a 90 minute cassette as many times as it would fit and listened to it every night while falling asleep. I still love it after hearing it at least ten thousand times.

2. Sonic Youth - Candle

Perhaps my most favorite song, on my favorite album, by my favorite band.

3.Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy

One of those songs that I wanna listen to for the next hour whenever I hear it. Masterful rhymes, awesome sample, great production.

Ones that come to mind lately:

Charles Bradley's version of 'Changes'
Stooges - 'TV Eye'
And uhhhhhhh George Harrison's 'My Sweet Lord'

There's more (i can hear just about any Otis Redding song and it'll be a good time), this is just off the top of my head right now

^ ^ Funny, I'd been thinking about this for a while & came here to post The Stooges...

The Doors - My Eyes Have Seen You
Nirvana - School
The Stooges - Search & Destroy

In all honesty, it may only be the Nirvana track that lasts the test of time. Saying that, I dare say I'd even get tired of that too if I really did listen to it over & over & over & over...
