Uh, I’ll chime in here with a hell yeah. I’m pretty sure there’s been a few Fugazi threads, but I think they’re one of the best bands ever for various reasons. As such. As it were.

one of my top 3 bands. i own a few of the glasgow shows from the live series. they do a version of bed for the scraping that is just sooooo tight.

on a semi-related note. my friend has a spot on a small radio show. she wants to invite me on to talk about bands that changed my life. i've been racking my brain over fugazi songs that mean a lot to me AND also really encapsulate fugazi's sound. this has caused me to re-listen to every fugazi album in order and i'm still no closer to picking one song.

weirdly, going through every fugazi album, i've noticed fugazi were always a few years ahead of a lot of trends.

I also dig the documentary they made: "Instrument". Changed my life for sure! I was 14 when I watched it and it made me think "I can really do it myself"

Seeing them at The Barrowlands in Glasgow was a genuinely life changing experience. Peerless.

The place put on decade after decade of legendary shows... what else do you want it to do?

Be laid out better and have less dickish security mainly, but it’s gone now apparently.

Holy fuck those guys were assholes. I haven't thought about that for a long time. I think I was at that '95 show although it could have been a year on either side of that.

If not the, one of my favorite bands of all time.

I went to pick up Nirvana In Utero a week or two before it was actually released in 93. Disappointed by not being able to buy what I went to town for (45 minute drive from my parents farm), I picked up a magazine and started reading while waiting for my ride to pick me up. 13 year old me had never heard of Fugazi. Read a review of In on the Kill Taker in the magazine, saw it on the rack and decided to give it a chance. I was hooked from the first feedback flicking of the toggle switch during Facet Squared.

I'd had "indie" and punk stuff prior to this (Quicksand was probably the closest thing I had to Fugazi), but everything galvanized with Fugazi.

When I went back for In Utero I also walked out with the small stores copies of Repeater and Steady Diet of Nothing. That quickly led to Minor Threat, Rites of Spring and Pailhead.

Never got to see them live though. By the time I got my license and had access to a car they weren't playing Canada that much

oh also, fugazi is one of the few bands where me and my friends cant pick out a best album.

i mean if i had to try ordering it. i'd say something along the lines of the argument, red medicine, end hits, steady diet, killtaker, repeater and 13 songs. but i have met so many people who think killtaker is the best. i dont even think any of those albums are even bad. if someone told me to rate all of them out of 10, the worst would get a 7.

I can’t consistently pick a favourite album. It tends to change.

Not heard this one as I'd only recently got into them but just listened now and its really good. They seem to do no wrong.
I've got my national 5s coming up in January and their albums are great to revise to.

I got hooked on Fugazi after seeing them open up for a Sonic Youth show in DC, somewhere around 1990. Didn't know a thing about them, and got to the venue early enough to be right at the stage. Fugazi just about took my head off. I think Ian McKaye sprayed some sweat and spit on me. It's pretty rare to catch a band like the cold and get completely blown away.

Been a big fan ever since, and I still actively listen. I still think Repeater was the single best thing they ever did, if only for the fact that it was a perfect statement of what was best about them. But it's a first among equals in a great catalog.

I love that they built a parallel business world, had strong ethics and lived them. They also had the good sense to go away and not drag it out. I love them, I wish I'd seen them more than once, but I don't want them to reunite. A band like Sleep comes back and it makes sense, there was unfinished business. Fugazi had a perfect arc and they only risk sullying that. It's hard to see how they could bring the same energy, and Fugazi was about energy. Not sure if you all saw it, but there was a story out recently about how Fugazi still gets together and jams, just privately. Meanwhile, McKaye, his wife and the bass player apparently have a new band, and there's another band with the drummer and bass player and guitar guy. Wonder what Guy is up to?

Guy's a great guy.

Ian, however, is a dick. I'll never forget what a condescending prick Ian was to my friends and I when we were awestruck teenagers meeting the band before our first Fugazi show.

His new band with his wife sucks ass, too. He spends half the show now lecturing the crowd and trying to get people to stop dancing and sit on the floor.
