New Order are much better, I really don't care much for JD.
When I bought Substance I started learning all the bass lines off of it. So driving and out front. Who could resist? My little group who did covers played their remake of "Ceremony". A lot of people did I guess.

Of late have also been enjoying Carol Kaye’s bass work.
I love that pick funk thing she did like on
Hikky Burr and
Boogaloo from a solo album.

The sound and feel on the Melody Nelson LP is amazing, be it Dave Richmond or Herbie Flowers. It certainly inspired a lot of music through the years I like now.

Fun House is my favorite Stooges album, and one of my favorite albums period. Good call. Brutal bass riffs all over the place.

I always have a hard time picking my favorite; most often it happens to be the one I last listened to. But Fun House... there's just something about that record...
If anarchy had a soundtrack, it'd be Fun House.

i'm amazed i never posted here before seeing as i was an active bass player for many many many years. well here is a short list.
nice n sleazy - the stranglers (jj burnel was the man who made me pick up bass)
maga dog - peter tosh (my dad was a bass player and always said play along with reggae songs)
psycho killer - talking heads (cleche i know but watching tina play is a fucking joy)
monkey trick - jesus lizard (fucking evil bass tone and a good example of basslines that dance with the guitar)
salad days - minor threat
have you ever - the offspring (david will give me shit for this one but i stand by how greg k was a great example of the perfect bass player for the band)
there is a few others i'll add to that list but right now, im sleepy

Was that another Jamerson song? That guy was all over everything. He might be tied with John Entwhistle from The Who for favorite bassist.

Do youngsters these days know Bootsy? Is he just that guy at NAMM with the sunglasses and weird bass now? He cut
so many amazing bass tracks in the ‘70s. Sometimes they get a little swamped in the mu-tron, but I mean, seriously! Larry Graham, too. I worry that kids don’t dig through the campy fashion to get to the golden nougat at the core of that era of funk.

The passing of Aretha Franklin had me thinking about her bassist on so many of her classic recordings and in concert, Jerry Jemmott.
But I'm throwing this soul groove out there since his bass is so out front and so Jerry. Also it's rare that a remake (IMO) blows the original away:
