GOOD GOD I'VE BEEN PLAYING THIS OVER AND OVER AND OVER SO MUCH NOW!!!
as the singles came out little by little, i must confess i was a bit dazzled about their "new sound", but after listening to the entire album once, it all made sense somehow.
wonderful.
SO looking forward to seeing them live in autumn!

Yes! Loving it. Lemon Glow is still a highlight for me on the new album.

I really don't know how they do it, their albums keep getting better and better. After one listen 7 is already my new favorite!

Just listened to it a few times on the plane. This is going to be a grower like Depression Cherry. Black Car is my current favorite track.

Re: new Beach House "7"
I've not had a chance to play my copy and give it a proper listen but Mrs S has had it on and it sounds good from a distance but I've only caught snippets. I think the song Black Car caught my ear as sounding quite fresh but then the song after it was a but...well...typical.
I was interested in them working with Sonic Boom, he seems to have a good ear and is nicely reluctant to reprise his old styles. With this in mind I'd recommend the No Joy / Sonic Boom 12', which I really loved and which sounds not unlike Paper Dollhouse's recent album and probably deserved more recognition than it got.

Re: new Beach House "7"
I'm a little underwhelmed so far, but my experience with the last two they released is that it takes a while for it to all sink in. Most of the bands I really like evolve a bit over time while still retaining their essence. Some bands evolve too much and lose the plot, other bands never change at all and get stale. I am fascinated how we all have different subjective gages for these sorts of things.
So far I've enjoyed Beach House's progress. I will be seeing them later this year too.

Re: new Beach House "7"
Just bought tickets for their DC date in August. When my wife and I were courting, Beach House was the first music (Teen Dream) that we discovered together that was “ours” rather than something one or the other of us brought to the relationship. When we have dinners where it’s just the two of us (kids make this a not so frequent thing), we always put on whatever Beach House album is doing it for us at the moment. I look forward to exploring this one with her too, based on what I’ve heard so far.

Re: new Beach House "7"
I hope it grows on me... Right now I only liked 2 or 3 songs, but I haven't really stopped and listened to it carefully.
Looks like Alex took a major step back though... Not many remarkable guitar parts in this album right?

There’s definitely less in the way of prominent guitar hooks. I dig the overall sinister feel of it.

I'm starting to dig it! How come I can't find anything substantial about their gear on the internet? They have such an interesting sound so I'm surprised nobody took some picture of their live setup

Re: new Beach House "7"
Btw I think folk who like Beach House might like the following two records;
Tess Roby - Beacon not a lot on youtube
Tess Roby - Given Signs (Live on KEXP)
Tess Roby - Ballad 5
Tess Roby - Catalyst
And Especially Carmen Villain - Infinite Avenue which is a truly brilliant album IMO and the remixes are also top shelf material.
