"KISS Guy" jumping into a Foo Fighters set and killing it

Post by Embenny » Wed Apr 25, 2018 9:08 pm

Not sure if you guys have seen the recent viral video of a fan in Austin TX last week who was invited up on stage by Dave Grohl and proceeded to rock Monkey Wrench so unexpectedly perfectly that Dave Grohl forgot the lyrics.

Regardless of whether you're a Foo Fighters fan, this is one of the most joyful moments I have seen in a while. The guy (Yayo Sanchez) is a skilled guitarist who had more stage presence than the band itself. Anticipated transitions and took cues for solos from the band. Caught Dave Grohl completely off-guard at one point by throwing back to him at the end of a solo perfectly smoothly, which he obviously wasn't expecting.

Both Yayo and the band looked like they were having a great time. Just a really fun moment.

Why do people always say this? Obviously, if you're like me and find anything to do with either The Foo Fighters or Kiss utterly despicable, there is no joy of any kind to be had from this spectacle.

Yeah, that was fucking cool!

Although it's not my thing, I really kinda wanted him to smash the guitar up at the end though. :shifty:

With bells on but with no further totally pointless guitar solos thank-you very much. It was like a parody of a parody of a parody of a parody.

Dave Grohl is forever going viral but sadly not in the bubonic way I hope.

mbene085 ;Obviously I'm just jealous at your novelty thread getting replies.

me and john Hiatt don't go for that either, but it would have been very funny.

As someone who's wife is a rabid foo fan, I've been too close to them at tooo many shows.
Truthfully though, there aren't many giant live acts around anymore, it's worth going to see them at least once. Seeing a band that isn't too cool to look like they're happy, goes a long way with me.
plus, Pat Smear's on stage.
(Christopher, also)
I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

I guess I'm just naive enough to believe in the joy of playing music, regardless of taste. If it had been a fan jumping up on stage at a joint Miley Cyrus and John Mayer show, and that fan was taking cues from the band and ripping solos and having the best day of their life, I'd still find it pretty fucking cool.

I'm sure he was sincere in a typically Ulrich droll manner unless my dowsing wand is faulty. Given Ulrich and myself are the only refuseniks I can only assume that Hadrians wall does more than repel Romans.

Oh? Maybe it was optimistic of me to assume that anyone who really felt that way could manage to contain their incessant pessimism that's just so hip right now for one obviously light-hearted thread.

Totally entertaining.
In a make-believe, one of us-little guy gets discovered, heroes always win, Disney kind of way...

Am I the only one having difficulty turning off the skepticism?
That was random happenstance? Spur-of-the-moment? Not even the sliiiiiiightest bit pre-meditated?
Really?

It's not pessimism from where I am sitting, it's an honest reaction to typical cookie cutter rockist japery and yet another thread on the omnipresent form of Dave Grohl. It's great for the guy and all that but it's just him doing what they do. I'd get more excited if a wee dog ran on stage or if Dave fell off again.

It's certainly not hip, I hesitate to speak for my fellow Scots but that's just the way a lot of us are, we don't really do the whole lighters aloft and hotdog in the other hand thing, it's not really in our national DNA

Obviously if you grew up with Bill and Ted rocking like a hurricane in the winds of change you'll come at this differently.

Good luck to the guy if this was a true run effort...next up Nickelback.

The guy is actually a pro guitarist who is registered as a Fender Artist and teaches in some relatively influential circles. He was going apeshit and holding up a sign saying "Monkey Wrench" because Dave is known to sometimes let fans come up and play.

It wasn't premeditated by the band, but the guy was a professional musician who painted his face and held a sign in the front row all show to get noticed, so it was very much premeditated by him.
